I am a new Anthem resident and I was looking at the schools in the Deer Valley Unified school district. They are all rated excellently. When I went in to enroll my sons, I was told my sons could not repeat their last grade level, despite them being young and wanting to do so. (My sons actually asked if they could stay back to get older, improve scholastically and to meet people in this new area) DVUSD enthusiastically declined any attempts to do so and would not hear anything I had to say about our education plan.
I called Caurus because it was highly recommended by Anthem residents. From the moment they answered the phone, I have had an unabashed love-fest for this school and the people they have retained from teachers, to admins they are excellent.
My 2 oldest sons will be joined by my younger son and daughter shortly and we are not looking back. This is the way the school experience should be.
This is our 9th year at Caurus & we couldn't be happier! The whole staff is like family to my kids. My kids are pretty fast learners & the teachers actually notice that & give them extra goals, challenges & lessons (in a fun way, - everyday is fun at Caurus!) to keep them individually motivated & engaged exactly at the level they are at - I feel like this kind of thing almost never happens anymore in elementary school & it is so great! Highest recommendation for sure.
We've been very pleased with Caurus. The staff is friendly. The teachers and administrators are accessible and really seem to care about the students. They have smaller class sizes and more personalized instruction. They also have uniforms, but they are not as stringent as some of the other schools in the area.
I wish transportation was available, but it's a small school and not very practical.
I do have one gripe: Despite not being affiliated with any religion, they do have a holiday program where they sing Christmas songs and the kids perform in the church next door, which is fine, but then the kids are not allowed to celebrate Halloween. I don't mean not allowed to wear costumes, etc., I mean not allowed to celebrate it, period, as they do other holidays. This really bothers me.
But the positives are strong enough to outweigh the concerns I have over that. Our daughters have been in public schools, home schooled, and at Caurus. And Caurus is the one that has consistently been the best fit for our family. I highly recommend them.
