As a previous patient at Ascend I will say that some things that the previous review said are true that a lot of us are here trying to get help. Because we are addicts working on ourselves should we never go out in public? I understand that it's a nuisance having the traffic in the neighborhood but the police are contacted when someone AWOL's which happens on occasion. But many of us are working a strict program where we're not locked inside all the time. Any problems you have with patients will be dealt with accordingly if you were to make the CEO or house manager aware. Not only that but we care about the neighbors and I've suggested we ask them if we can do anything to help as far as chores, yard work, dog walking, taking the garbage cans in and out, or even haircuts as I'm a licensed barber.
God forbid addiction or mental health disorders ever effect your family or friends but if so Ascend is a program that has some great employees who really care. I apologize if we seem scary or unapproachable but we mean well and if we can help you with anything please knock on the door and ask. This place has saved lives, and continues to strive to be the best facility in the state. Offering therapy, medical services, behavioral health, and assistance with housing and continued treatment upon discharge. Is it going to solve the epidemic that our country is experiencing? No, but every life saved here has a direct affect on countless other lives and past patients have gone on to change many lives. So I implore you to not judge us by our appearance because we're not bad people. And if we stare at you while walking your dog (I've been guilty of that) maybe it's because we don't get to see many normal people. Or in my case I love my dogs whom I rarely get to see and maybe I'd like to pet yours, but I'm too shy to ask.
Overall Ascend is a good place that has great employees. I would recommend it to anyone with behavioral health issues and the CEO Roberta really does care about the patients. She has some great employees, including James Singleton and Chris Cheaney who I can honestly say have been a huge part of my recovery. They do their best to hire qualified behavioral health technicians but it's a tough field to staff and even tougher to work in. Most houses have 10 clients all with different needs to address. This place saved my life so for neighbors that have to deal with residing near an Ascend house I implore you to be patient and understanding. Of course there is an occasional 'bad apple' that comes along and I apologize for the inconvenience it causes you as a neighbor. But you don't get to see how it can change a person and the transition people are making as a result of the program. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and the next time you judge someone for their appearance or having track marks, remember it could happen to anyone.
