Our son had tried other martial arts schools before, having taken lessons as a young boy when we lived in Germany. However, most schools feature large classes with little attention to the individual's strengths, development and talents. As a result, our son was barely invested in his training.
When we moved to Tucson, we looked for a school for our then 13-year-old that takes the training, the sport and the cultural aspects it represents seriously. We have found this in Sensei Langlais. He values each student and coaches them to get stronger mentally and physically. This is another aspect where the Sensei goes beyond other schools. Karate training is mixed with fitness and strength training fitting to the children's age to enhance their craft.
Our son is so proud when he shows us how much stronger he has gotten in only a few months.
When it comes to the Karate skills directly, the Sensei takes his time to perfect the moves, stances, punches and more. It is great to see such an emphasis on building proper basics.
Lastly, the school takes part in a lot of local activities and teaches the students a responsible and mindful lifestyle, which - as parent of a teenager - I can say is a wondeful supplement to how we want to raise him. I was impressed to see memorial workouts and food donation drives.
I recommend Sensei Langlais' school to all who already have experienced Karate or those who are beginners. Thank you Sensei for your diligence and comittment.

I enrolled my boys, ages 8 & 9 years old, almost seven months ago with the goal to place them in an environment that will teach them discipline, self-confidence, respect, leadership, structure, adaptability, and release stress. My oldest son was facing challenging situations at school due to emotional, psychological & physical lack of skills he is now learning in this dojo. Sensei Langlais’ meets the leadership skills I was looking for as a role model and coach for my boys. Great leadership is about making others feel safe, build self-confidence, and give opportunities for growth and Sensei meets this criteria. Sensei Langlais fulfills his mission in educating and empowering his students to protect themselves and others.
I love that they work to earn everything and their behavior at home & school are taken in consideration for them to progress.
My boys are also learning, honor, humility, gratitude and accountability.
I am also impressed with the memorial workouts and food drive participation as well the family participation with assessments and open dojo family workouts. There is a strong emphasis on the importance of family and Sensei truly cares for his students by following up with them on challenging days they either face at the dojo, school or at home. Another skill I find important is the discernment to accept and ask for help and this is encouraged at the dojo.
My sons love going to the dojo and they both look up to Sensei, Kai, Emma and other dojo mates.

I highly recommend this dojo for anyone that wants to build the courage to take on mental & physical challenges that will teach you survival skills and leadership.

My 11 year old son joined the Japan Karate Federation about one year ago and I cannot say enough good things about all of the discipline, accomplishments, growth and overall amazing mental and physical strength he has gained from his practice.
Sensei Langlais works so well with his students; he exemplifies leadership and promotes a well-rounded structure throughout his practice.
My favorite part is that the students are made to EARN their promotions. If you are the type of person who likes participation awards then this dojo may not be for you. Every student works hard towards their promotion and nothing is earned until every aspect required to move on has been perfected.
My son is excited for every class, is sad when he has to miss a day and whole heartedly upholds the goals and requirements that are set out for him to keep moving forward.
The Japan Karate Federation is also very involved in the community and encourages its students to participate in a number of charity events throughout the year, which I find invaluable for my kids.
What has made the biggest impression on me personally from the dojo is the attention that is given to each students needs, and the family atmosphere that is felt in each class. Sensei Langlais’s own kids speak for the success of the dojo and of the family. Both of these young adults are incredible role models of what we all should hope to emulate!
I think that no matter your age or skill level, if you are looking to learn true discipline at the best dojo in Tucson that this is the place to go!
Thank you and your family for everything Sensei Langlais.

Almost 6 months ago I enrolled my daughter, age 9 at the time, with Japan Karate Federation in Tucson with the specific goal of building self esteem, confidence, begin an exercise regimen as well as learning discipline and respect. I have seen these goals being realized and more as she progresses and learns with Sensei and her fellow students at the dojo. The staff, students and parents are 1st class, mutually supportive and foster a great environment for students to learn and grow. Sensei does a great job balancing praise where earned and coaching where needed. My daughter really enjoys her time at the dojo and I can see her confidence grow and self consciousness fade and has been great for her growth as a person. I highly recommend anyone considering sending their child here to do so!

I’ve been bringing my son here for about 3 or so months and him and I both love it. Sensei is great with kids and I love that not only are they learning karate, they are learning to be calm, to be respectful of others, and to take care of themselves. The ages range from 4-13 or 14 I believe. It’s really nice having kids of all ages learn to work together as a team. I’m excited for all the great things my son is going to continue learning in his karate class.
