Friendly people and beautiful location too.
This is a great place to learn how to sail or windsurf and make friends. There is a strong sense of community and a co-op feel. It's a volunteer-run organization but works remarkably well because the members are so committed to one another and the community. And, you can't beat the price!
Learned to sail here, starting from scratch and moving up, eventually to crewing blue-water ocean passages (racing, SF to Hawaii, cruising, Central America). CSC only has insurance to one mile past the Golden Gate Bridge, so blue water sailing is mostly out; but the Bay is their oyster! A superb resource. Humbling.
Best deal for sailing in the bay area. Dinghy sailing and windsurfing available to all skill levels. Quarterly dues are less than the cost of a single lesson elsewhere. Note: This is a co-op and membership does require volunteer time.
If you live anywhere near Berkeley, and have wanted to get out on the Bay this outfit makes it easy and cheap. All the gear is there at the water, ready to go, even the wetsuits. Very able people willing to teach for free.
You have no excuse. Do it.
