Top tier club for epee in downtown Oakland. I was very impressed by the club on my first day and I'll be fencing here for the foreseeable future. The facility has plenty of space and all metal strips. The members and staff are all very friendly and helpful for newcomers.
Super fun training for my kid. Much more gender neutral than other sports with a good age spread too. Positive coaching with a good mix of fun and serious skill building. A touch of the Francophile world as well
I brought my 14 year old daughter into the gym about 9 years ago and ended up signing up as well. It's been a wonderful experience for me.
Firstly, in no particular order, the conditioning program is excellent; what a great/fun way to stay in shape! I used to jog for fitness, but this is WAY better.
Secondly, the community of fencers of all ages and levels is fantastic. So many encouraging and friendly people here. Also, the coach, Abdul, keeps it fun yet competitive at the same time.
Lastly, I'm so impressed with Abdul's coaching. He has really mastered his craft. I'm constantly learning and perfecting with his guidance and encouragement. Another great thing about him is his tailoring the coaching to my particular strengths and weaknesses. It's so great to constantly see improvement.
I highly recommend this fencing gym to any beginners or advanced fencers. All will have a place here.
Excellent fencing training
Great gym for competitive épée fencers and young beginners. Many of the strongest fencers in the region train at East Bay, from Y14s up to veterans. In addition to being highly competitive, it's also a very friendly community with a real spirit of camaraderie.
