  Oakland's Claremont DMV is notorious as the great slow moving, cumbersome, soul sucking example of civil service at it's worst. One needs to plan hours of time wasted in line filling out forms only to find out you are missing some necessary documentation or other which sends you away to try again another day.
  But...today is a new day. With online appointment scheduling available, online documents available as well as sample testing, DMV has definitely moved into the 21st Century.
  That's not all....if you aren't able to keep up with the DMV improvements and arrive without an appointment, the walk in process has been streamlined and even at 3:45 on a Friday before a federal holiday, the staff maintained a cordial, professional demeanor and operated like a well oiled machine shuttling the wannabe drivers and renewers to the various windows. Walk past the camera at window 28 and fill out the application at and blue numbered computer then proceed to window 29 for triage. 29 sent me to 20 who stamped my approval and steered me to 25 for my picture and I was out the door.
  But, wouldn't you know, one applicant I witnessed, acting a little extra cool, missed when his number was called, then tried to blame the staff member, the automated voice program, and even the poor 16 y/o with the next number - all as the reason he missed his number.
  The staff person at window 19 explained his number was announced 3 times and it was posted on the numerous screens throughout the office. Sure enough, taking a glance upward there was the fool's number blinking like a beacon or numbing his senses as though he were about to have an epileptic seizure.
  I thought "the jig's up" for him but window 27 hearing the ruckus stepped in and said she could see him there.
  Kudos to DMV and the staff from windows 1 through 30. California is definitely driving forward.

  Best DMV visit I’ve ever have. As long as you’re prepared & show up at least 30-45 mins before they open you will be in & out of there. Filling out & uploading any paperwork via your DMV account prior to your visit definitely helps! The person who helped me was very kind, patient & welcoming. I definitely recommend this location. I usually love to attach pictures to my Reviews but wouldn’t that be against the law? 🤨 Since it’s a state level government agency & all, not sure how all of you are getting away with it; lots of personal information getting exchanged in there… Anyways, 5 stars!

  I know this is odd but I am just so grateful for the speed and kindness I have experienced at this DMV both times I’ve been in. This second time I came after a failed trip to AAA without an appointment, with limited time, and didn’t even know what I actually needed. Brianna, the front desk organizer, and the supervisors were honestly a breath of fresh air!
  
  Thank you to the nicest, fastest DMV I’ve ever been to.

  Went in to check my renewal sticker status without an appointment (no appointments for this during covid times). Was given a number in line and received a text. The text updates were nice and let's you wait outside, I was processed within 30 minutes. Enployee was efficient and even navigated my digital forms well. Got my sticker printed shortly after. Really nice to see an efficient DMV

  The entire trip to this DMV took me one hour. I dealt with pleasant, professional people. But the best experience was with my clerk - a patient, warm gentleman (first name Jose, last name I don’t know, unfortunately), window number 4. I had a complicated situation, but he was very calm, steady and knew his stuff, a real pro by the way he handled the algorithm of my problem - I just left feeling very grateful. I hope people there get paid well.
