This was my husband’s favorite place as a child so we make a point to visit whenever we are in town. They have a lot of different hiking trails to choose from. We only took the hillside trail up to the water tower where you get a beautiful view of the canyon area. They have also paved the trail leading to the Oak of the Golden Dream and added some signs along the way to give you more info about the geology, plants, and history of the area. We went into building where they were getting ready to have a wildlife show and got to see a barn owl and hawk out of their cages. They have really made the center very nice, and being free to visit makes it a great place for families.
This is always a nice park to visit nature. The nature center has educational amimal displays with a gift shop, bathrooms, etc. They even have a few live birds in large cages on display, amazing! For those animal lovers that don't like animals in captivity, these birds were rescued from injuries obtained in the wild and cannot be returned to their habitat. This place also has some nice trails that can be picked up from the nature center. Took off a star because about half the trails are still shutdown from the fire a few years ago, habitat restoration, etc. A stop by is highly recommended!
Most trails are open but the flat trail along the creek is closed. That said, it seemed pretty safe to me. Pinetos trail is pretty overgrown with some trees down but is totally passable up to the fire road.
Real nice escape into nature. Nice for kids and adults. Learning opportunities as well.
Nice visitor centre with some animal ambassadors and an interesting interactive exhibit inside. Many well marked trails. Did I mention that it's free? Very nice.
