I have struggled with a fear of descending since a road crash I had more than two years ago, and I have been riding an average of 150 miles a week for over two years, give or take. I reached out to Alex at Ascent.bc and signed up for his descending clinic and he brought me back to the basics. We walked through a number of techniques one by one by first discussing and then doing. Something in me just clicked that day - my fear has been replaced by confidence and I have since gained a new found love for descending. I’ve even gotten a few PRs on segments I’ve ridden hundreds of times in the past! I highly recommend this clinic for any cyclist at any stage in their bike journey.

I have been riding for the last few years and gradually improving my technique. Like many others, I'll watch YouTube videos that introduce great concepts and then try to apply them in the real world, but nothing beats the benefits of an in-person clinic, especially with Alex! After completing Alex's Climbing and Descending Clinic, I felt stronger, faster, more confident and SAFER on the bike!
I'm already applying these new concepts in my everyday rides and look forward to working with Alex again in the future!
Alex is AMAZING! I have not only worked with him professionally & collaborated on projects together, but he has also helped me improve my own riding a ton by attending one of his clinics! I cannot say enough good things about Alex- he is so easy going, concise in his teaching, and just such a genuinely nice person. As an avid cyclist and former road racer I def am not new to road riding, Alex still managed to give me some great tips that helped me work thru some bad habits on the road I had picked up after a nasty crash shook my confidence. I 100% recommend his descending clinics, and would definitely suggest anyone who is looking for a great coach to shoot him a message.
Highly recommend Alex to anyone who is interested in improving their bike handling skills. He is incredibly knowledgeable and explains things in a very clear manner. I noticed a big difference in my level of comfort and skill on the bike after just one session with him.
Alex is an outstanding teacher and coach. There is no doubt that Alex is a skilled, accomplished and knowledgeable cyclist...but being able to teach those skills to people of different abilities is a whole separate talent, and Alex really has it.
He is patient and creative and really listened to what my goals and challenges are. He considered my schedule and budget and formed a plan right in that sweet spot between aspiration and reality so that I am excited to strive without being overwhelmed.
On a logistical level, Alex is accommodating with his schedule and very prompt and thorough in his email and text responses.
I highly recommend working with Alex to meet your cycling goals and to have fun.
