My family and I were dealing with a very sudden and unexpected tragedy. My very young, very beautiful, and otherwise healthy sister-in-law was dying, and we needed to discuss end-of-life measures for her. As my husband and I are both attorneys, the family relied heavily on us for guidance, as my sister-in-law did not have an estate plan or advanced directives in place.

I emailed Mr. Van Marter on a Saturday morning, and within an hour, he called me back. He was a calm voice in a time of sadness and panic, and he helped walk me through some of the issues we were facing. He also referred me to some other individuals that I would need to speak with regarding the situation. However, he didn’t stop there – Mr. Van Marter also made those phone calls on my behalf and continued to follow up with those individuals to make sure that my family’s needs were addressed. Mr. Van Marter followed up with me almost daily to ensure that all my questions and concerns were addressed.

The kindness that Mr. Van Marter showed my family was incredibly generou, and speaks volumes to his spirit. I am so proud to be able to call someone with this kind of integrity my colleague and friend.
