(September 24, 2014, 1:10 pm)It's crazy to think that I am already on my last year of law school. This experience has been a roller coaster to say the least, but I would not change a thing about it. I started law school extremely shy and walked with my head down. Luckily for me, I had Professor Williams who saw my lack of confidence and helped me break out of my turtle shell so much so that I am currently the SBA President. Professor Williams was my Civil Procedure Professor who made Civil Procedure so engaging by teaching us practical skills and lecturing that it became my favorite class. I even took California Civil Procedure as an elective because I found the class to be so helpful.
The Professor's at Western State bend over backwards for their students. They are always available whether its during their office hours (which they have regularly) or over the phone or via email. They are available to hear our frustrations with other classes, the fear of taking the bar, and even regarding what we want to practice.
The courses required at Western State are definitely challenging, but they are also practical. Our Professors are aware that we are always concerned with what the BAR will test us and they tend to test us the same exact way the BAR will test us. The school really does prepare you to take the bar by offering classes as SLP (this is the course that teaches how to take the Performance Test) and BBS which are classes made to prepare you for the bar. I had Professor Eggleston as my SLP Professor and my God, that lady is an angel. She was always available to hear my frustration because I felt like I never knew what I was doing. I began with scores as low as 64 and ended the class with getting a 79 and able to complete the exam in the three hour time period allotted thanks to her teaching and availability.
It's true that the facilities may not be up to par for now, but the current Professors who are in charge of getting the facilities changed are taking into account what the students want. What school actually gives the student's a voice on such issues? Western State does. Our Professors are not only engaged with the students concerning class matters, but are available to us when we have concerns about the school, life and/or careers. They will even revise our resumes!
Speaking of resumes, Pamela Davidson is AMAZING. She is in charge of our Career Resources. Not only does she help us with our resumes she put us in front of employers. She is actively engaged with OCBA (Orange County Bar Association) and invites students to attend the OCBA events so we can network with other attorneys in the area.
If you are looking to go to a law school where you can have an open door relationship with Professors, feel confident taking the bar, and be comfortable networking with other attorneys then I highly recommend Western State. -

(September 23, 2014, 9:24 pm)Western State (WSCL) provided for me one of the best educations in the nation. I am currently pursuing my LL.M. at one of the top ranked schools located in NYC; thus, I can compare my experience at WSCL to that of another fine institution. The aesthetics of WSCL are not great nor is location, but hopefully the change of campuses will fix all that.
Regardless, it's about substance and that's what WSCL provides. The teachers push you like no other and are some of the best one could ask for both in class and outside of it. At the end of the day, it's all about passing the bar on your first attempt and that's exactly what WSCL demands of its students.
As far as job placement goes, WSCL is definitely moving in the right direction. Keep in mind whether you go to WSCL or Stanford, your future employment will be dependent upon you.

I went to Western State University College of Law when they were the only law school in Orange County, and graduated in 1994. Great instructors, many of which were judges (who in turn had graduated from Western University, as it was, again, the only law school in Orange County). True that in 2015, there are much better schools.
