Great hike. Most recently, the snow, ice, and full river made it quite beautiful. Crowded, but the people were nice, friendly, and seemed to take good care of the trail.
Awesome hike last Sunday, 2/19 up to Sitton Peak. Trail head is on the opposite side of the parking lot by the candy store. Started up the trail at 1pm and got back down about 5:30pm. It rained pretty hard most of the hike but it was still very beautiful. The last half mile or so is pretty steep straight up to the peak. Dogs are no problem. I brought my Great Dane and there were several others along the hike. Nice 9 mile moderate day hike!
Easy to moderate Trail. Roughly two mile Loop. I saw a couple families with younger children taking the trail. There's a nice picnic area on the loop.
Lovely loop trail with all kinds of terrain, a little challenge easily overtaken. I took my 2 and 5yo girls they did awesome! About 2 miles all the way around. Decent shade throughout. The oak trees are so majestic! Also there are camping grounds to be noted. Bathroom facilities non flushing, there is also a drinking well/ pump in the parking area.
Fantastic, moderate trail loop. Small portions of shade hit the trail throughout so prepare well. Bring lots of water, especially during the hot months.
The wet season is particularly nice as the creek at the bottom of the San Juan loop is flowing well and wildflowers abound. Parking is to the right of Hwy 74 and there are public restrooms.
Adventurers pass is usually required here and can be purchased across the street at the candy shop.
Dogs are welcome, on leash only. Please be sure to clean up after yourself or your pet.
