Awesome to get into the forest so easily and SO close to one of the nation's largest cities!
Beautiful mountains and forest. You have to buy pass-per year 30$, per day 5$.Convenient parking, clean toilet.Hike Big horn not to heavy, but any way be careful, somewhere road completely destroyed. There is a tunnel where mined gold 100 years ago.
Especially the Heaps Peak Arboretum between Lake Arrowhead and Running Springs. Easy walks and lots of information on the plants. I'll bet it's gorgeous when the huge old Dogwoods are blooming.
Between Hemet and Mountain Creek, on the way to Palm Desert on Route 74, we passed thru a section where the fire came through in the summer of 2018. It is a stark scene of a barren landscape that I was unprepared to witness. Everything that was growing close to the ground was vaporized into the atmosphere. We saw sticks of bushes and trunks of larger trees standing, but otherwise, everything was gone, it was bare earth.
