  It wasn’t until my fourth pregnancy that I finally found the bravery to go through a birth center. With my first, I was induced and the cocktail of medication they gave me knocked me out to the point that I didn’t remember the birth or the day after. 15 years later it still breaks my heart that I can’t remember the birth of my son. With my second and third babies, I was able to avoid all interventions in a hospital setting, but it still was too procedural and trying to get the birth I hoped for was a battle against the nurses. With both babies, nurses were rushing in last minute to barely catch the baby because, as I warned them, I progress very quickly. With my fourth, I finally decided to seek out something better. As soon as I met Cristi and her amazing staff, I knew I had found something different, something special. Even my husband who wasn’t on board with the birth center idea was all team Acorn after touring the center. “I can tell you’re going to love it here” he said and he was right! The care I received was a night-and-day difference from what I’d received in the past. It wasn’t the cut-and-paste appointment I was used to. I wasn’t just another patient on a conveyer belt. It was personal. Honestly, it was fun! The ladies were warm and happy. Their confidence about birth was contagious. My previous non-medicated births had been painful to the point that I was a bit traumatized and I was very fearful. The first thing that went through my mind to be honest when I found out I was pregnant is “I can’t do that again”. The more time I spent with these women, the better and more self-confident I felt. When the day (or rather night) came, we called Cristi about an hour after closing to tell her we were on our way. Even though I told her I thought it might be a false alarm, by the time we got to the center, my team was all there and ready to go. The room was warm with soft lighting and they were prepping the tub just as I’d requested. The entire experience was so far above and beyond what I’d expected. It was amazing! My team were so kind and gentle. They were so intuitive and knew how best to support me every step of the way. My baby came just before 4am and it was really a miraculous experience. Such a difference from the hospital. They watched my body for signs of tension and helped me to breathe and relax which is a huge pain reliever during labor. Rachel applied pressure to my tailbone during the final stages and it provided immense comfort. It was such an easy labor, I know I could do it again with their loving help and support. If we decide to round out our family with another baby, I will be back for sure! I wish I could have had such an amazing experience with my previous births but the experiences I did have allow me to appreciate this one all the more.   I had such an amazing experience with Cristi and her team Allison and Ann. I enjoyed and looked forward to my prenatal appts and felt very prepared for my home birth. My birth went so well and am glad I can look back to such a wonderful experience. I am so grateful.

  I admit I had my doubts about midwifery and home birthing. It was evident, however, that Cristi and her team are incredibly caring and experienced by their treatment of my wife and explanations of their processes. The pre and post-natal care is both intentional and intimate: they don’t push clients through the birthing center or rush appointments. Things can be a bit unpredictable since they’re working with other moms, but they try to be flexible with their scheduling and availability, especially when laboring. My wife has birthed two kids at home with Cristi and her team, and both times Cristi has been a comfort and encouragement. Her familiarity with the visual cues of a birthing mom surprised me—my wife was never checked (by her request) while laboring with our two home-births, and she knew exactly where we were in the process. She was also very courteous to be present to us but give my wife the space needed to labor, and she was direct and clear when we needed extra instruction.
  All around, the midwives were good to us, and we’re more than happy to encourage people to explore the greater degree of care offered through midwifery.

  There aren’t words to explain how grateful I am for Cristi and Acorn birthing center!! I came to them about midway through my pregnancy,very frustrated and devastated to say the least! I had a horrible experience with an obgyn in the riverside area and couldn’t find a midwife that excepted my insurance ! Then we found acorn and everything just fell into place. Cristi and all the ladies I met were amazing , they never treated me like a patient but like a friend! I want to give a huge shout out to Annie for the days she came in when she didn’t have to just to see how I was doing and everything she did during and after my pregnancy! And a huge shout out to Josie as well for helping with my boys while I was in labor and for being an amazing midwife from start to finish ! Thank you ladies for a beautiful Ruth and for pulling cards with my family! Josie and Annie helped deliver my precious boy and even though I screamed and ugly cried they helped me through it with a smile! If I have another baby I will definitely come back to acorn again ! They are an amazing group and I love each and every person I talked to ! They dedicate their time to listen and help you through any discomfort ! I honestly hope to stay in contact with these ladies they are all so loving and inspiring!!! Thank you all again for an amazing birthing experience!
