(May 23, 2019, 2:10 am)This is disciplined athletic activity. I recommend it for older kids. The facility is well lit, indoors, and the coaches are very good with kids.
My daughter did martial arts for a while and earned a purple belt. She got a couple concussions from activities though and we found it wise to quit. She decided she wanted to do fencing and she is enjoying it. She says you have to think on your feet. They do warm-ups just like martial arts. It is also an individual sport. My daughter sees the consequences of her own efforts and feels the glory of her own accomplishments. She knows that when I complement her, it is sincere. She is also learning more good manners. This reinforces the sportsmanship learned with martial arts. This is a sport that is great for both girls and boys. (Fencing is also an impressive extracurricular activity for college applications.) The facility is located at a nice shopping center so the wait is convenient and comfortable. No need to worry about weather extremes. -

(February 12, 2019, 11:44 pm)This Academy is very welcoming. Overall, a great place for kids to meet to new friends. The coaches and staff are extremely professional and kind. They thoroughly teach kids how to fence and skills that will later on help them in life. The large variety of classes helps kids decide what works for them.La Jolla fencing Academy is a second home to many. I really recommend this wonderful place.

(December 21, 2018, 2:25 pm)This is the best club in SD and the whole area around. I did a lot of research trying to find a good coach in fencing in SD. I read a lot of books about fencing and talked to different people. The answer came from a USA fencing forum for parents, where someone listed the best coaches in USA. Among them was the name Dmitry Guy-San, Diego. Googling this name I found that just year La Jolla Fencing Academy was opened by him. I transferred my daughter there right away. She is just 10 years old, but she loves to practice endless hours in this club, because in this club so amazing, supportive and encouraging. She gets a lot of attention from all the coaches. Just for a couple of months practicing there her self confidence grew a lot. She started to put high goals for herself. It is not surprising at all when you are trained by multi world champions, USA champions, Russian and Ukrainian champions. The coaches at club are brilliant. She goes to beginners class, advanced class, agility class and master class. She also takes private lessons. The training sessions are very organized and efficient. The facility, strips, air conditioning are all very high quality, comfortable and clean. They have a nice area for parents to watch the kids progress. Plus,they also have glass windows to let people passing by see the fencers. I should also mention how many talented kids are there and wonderful parents. Fencing is a fascinating sport which develops many skills necessary for a successful life. For example, strategical thinking, boost of self confidence, leadership qualities, critical thinking, balance of the body, high level of physical development due to the high impact of aerobic training. I warmly recommend this club for kids and adults who would love to be trained in fencing.
