I had previously been a long term patron of the Shiley Eye Clinic at UCSD. Shiley has a great reputation and if I wanted tier-one care for my eyes, I assumed Shiley was the place to go. Fast-forward a few years and I was in need of an updated prescription for my glasses and contacts. As my office was in Sorrento Valley, I hit Yelp and this Dr. Hom had excellent reviews and he was right up the street. Made an appointment. To my suprise, the exam Dr. Hom performed was more thorough and more detailed that the Shiley exam, and less expensive. I came to the realization that if you have an eye disease, or require an elevated level of care and/or expertise, Shiley is probably an excellent choice. But for a garden-variety annual eye check, Dr. Hom did a far better job, and his overhead is certainly less onerous than Shiley which makes his office visits far less painful to the pocket-book. Dr. Hom is a great find and my whole family has now transferred from Shiley to Hom.
I was a client with Dr. Hom many years ago. I came back to San Diego recently to visit my parents. My contacts ripped and I didn't have a spare pair. I called Dr. Hom's office and explained my situation. Even after all these years of being away (almost 8 years) they were kind enough to give me a trial pair after seeing my current prescription! Such great customer service!
Dr. Hom is great! I went to him after my boyfriend went and had nothing but good things to say. He is patient and takes time to explain things to you. Twice I had mini "emergencies" and he fit me in the same day both times - even coming in when he was supposed to be off at a conference just so I could come in.
Thorough, friendly and reasonably priced. Staff is always friendly and helpful.
I switched over when my previous OD switched locations and their service dropped.
I am very happy with Dr. Hom
