Really enjoyed the hike! Took a path that totalled a little over 8 miles. It is a workout, but the views are quite nice. Somewhat similar to nearby mission peak, but with way less people.
Monument Peak from Ed Levin Park in Milpitas is my new favorite hike in the East Bay Area. We took a 10.4 mile path to the peak that was scenic, peaceful, challenging, and rewarding. We could see Oakland and San Francisco clearly to the north west, and the views of silicon valley and Levi's Stadium we're unparalleled to what we saw on our trips to Mission Peak. The Monument Peak trail is lightly trafficked (mostly because it is rated as difficult/hard). The length is a good distance and the climb, while hard, is not ridiculous. We hiked it on New Year's Eve, and the temperature was cool (mid 40s), but the wind was strong that day and made it seem colder that it really was. Luckily we dressed in layers and managed to stay warm. This hike during the summer may be harder because a large portion of the trail is not covered or under canopy, so lots of water and sunscreen will be needed. Lastly, parking at Ed Levin is $6. For $95 dollars you can buy an annual pass that will get you into any Santa Clara County Regional park and not have to worry about parking fees. In all this hike is FABULOUS!
Good exercise and not many people
