Awesome spot for starting the hike. Can run out of parking space very quickly.
Start by hiking up relatively steep slope of the Rhus Ridge trail then split to the Black Mountain trail which is mostly flat until the final portion of steep climb up. Rewarding views at the top. Trails are well kept and filled with beautiful trees and shrubs. The only downside is the parking which is a very small lot. Parking is also available at the Foothill College, add 1 more mile to the hike. No toiletries so plan ahead.
Hidden gem. A very quaint place to do hiking. The initial mile is a good start to get your heart pumping. Parking is very limited, the lot can hold at the most 10 cars, you can park in Foot Hill college and do the extra hike. Trail is shaded most of the way.
If you want to run hills, this is a great place to do it. First mile is a serious incline, but runable (keep coming back if you can't). Take a right turn on the three-way intersection at the top of the mile-long hill for more of the same. Go past the radio towers atop Black Mountain for a beautiful 360-degree vista. Nice place to sit and/or snack before heading down again.
