  This is nice historical area. It contains the old officer housing and the great St. Peter's Chapel with its Tiffany windows. Mare Island was the first U.S. Navy Shipyard on the west coast, when in 1854 David Farragut became it first commander. A number of submarines were built at Mare Island before it was decommissioned. There is also a nice nature walk that gives a good view of the Carquinez Bridge.

  Mare island has some very beautiful walking trails and has different events going on throughout the year. The reserve also allows you to camp on site. I have personally walked up and down all the trails and I love all the wide life that you will find throughout your walk.

  Great place for a walk to get away from it all. Nice hidden gem in Vallejo

  Lovely, peaceful place to walk in nature close to home. Mysterious and historic sites all around. Fascinating buildings. Great visitors center with artifacts like old bombs! Imagination goes wild there. NightMare Island event was a total gas. Can't imagine living in Vallejo without this community asset. Be sure to check out the naval cemetery tour when it's happening. Really interesting.
