If you are at all on the fence with seeing a surgeon for back issues, this is the DR and the facility to go to. Very kind and good bedside manor, and he is NOT! a Knife happy Dr, nor are his partners. We tried a few therapies for my lower back injury but were not successful so went to surgery, but the decision was left up to me, he really allows you decide on your own after hearing the facts. The last few weeks prior to my surgery my upper back decided to get involved as well and was even more painful than the lower back issue. Dr Helbig was very concerned and was planning on ordering an MRI. But the instant I woke up from anesthesia I felt incredible, pain was completely gone on both upper and lower back areas. I felt some pain where the Laminectomy and Discectomy took place, but it was expected. Even Dr Helbig was a bit shocked by how much relief I had so quickly, just now starting therapy after 6 weeks rest, and I still feel amazing. This man is a miracle worker! Would trust him with any back surgery he needed to do on me or my family.

My PCP sent me to see Dr Helbig because my MRI showed severe spinal stenosis with major arthritis. I was told to come early for my appointment to fill out paperwork. I did and Dr Helbig seen me on time. He was very nice and concerned but, he said he wouldn’t operate on me unless I quit smoking for at least a month. I quit smoking because, the pain in my lower back was so bad. that I did quit smoking. Within a month I scheduled my surgery. I spent 3 days in the hospital, then 7 days in rehab cause I had no one to take care of me at home. Immediately after surgery the pain that shot down my legs stopped! As time went on my back got less and less painful. Within 4 months I was pain free. The office staff has always been very nice and professional. I have no complaints about office or Dr Helbig.
