I fell on the ice 2/20/2024. I broke my ankle and leg. 3 hikers/strangers carried me on their back around 300 yards to the parking lot. A young powerful woman carried me the longest. I was not wearing spikes. I am a CO native and never have, big mistake. Please be safe this time of year. I love this trail and have been there many times. Very kid and dog friendly.

Beautiful trail. Easy, out and back, crossed over a creek repeatedly, little waterfalls.

This is a beautiful trail that is about 1.8 miles up the mountain and then you take the same 1.8 mile trail back down. It is very well marked and it is pretty easy to hike. They put big flat stepping stones across every creek bed. They also put in some flat stone steps on some of the hills. There are pretty rocks, boulders, creeks, colorful plants and trees. We also saw some birds and squirrels. We enjoyed our visit.

This 3.7 mile, out and back, partially shaded hike is a 5-star hike for families with younger children and a 3-star hike for more advanced hikers who want a challenge.

It's a popular trail and thus can be quite busy. We visited on the weekend and the parking lot was full. It holds approximately 20 cars, but there is room a little ways down the road with more parking (a couple minutes walk). Also in the parking lot--a port-o-potty. Use it if you think you might have to go as there are too many people on trail to find any privacy for a bathroom break--not to mention you are close to a water source.

The trail is easy to follow, with very small ups and downs, some steps, and multiple stream crossings (large rocks make it easy). Our kiddos loved playing in the water and stopping at every crossing to splash. There are lots of trees for shade for much of the trail and some pretty wildflowers and butterflies (mid-June). Just before you hit the turn around there is a pool of water and a small waterfall that's nice to sit by and enjoy a snack. It's also a great turn around point if your kiddos are getting cranky, as there isn't much past that point.

Don't forget to grab a trail guide near the trail head with fun activities for your kids to complete while hiking.

Note - We've also visited this hike in the winter and definitely recommend spikes for your shoes as many parts of the trail are sheets of ice.

My 10 year old described this as a “magical enchanted forest” because of the way the trail dances with the river. The full length of this quick hike runs along a quiet river (creek?). It was about 3.7 miles round trip. The end of the trail was anticlimactic, in that it just dead ends with a sign warning of private property. But the views and sounds along the way made it worth it. There was plenty of shade. Lots of interesting passes over the water, and stone steps to get over the few hill climbs. We took our shoes off to soak in the cool mountain water for a bit before heading back. Parking is incredibly limited and the rangers monitor it closely. When we returned to the lot, there were many parking tickets being given. Overall, would return!
