Wow! As my son was walking out the door for school today he stopped and turned back to us and said with such emotion and sincerity, "Thank you SO MUCH for making it possible for me to go to Watershed. It's just AWESOME!" Also, at the breakfast table last week he expressed how relieved he was to actually look forward to going to school and that for the first time ever, he doesn't dread school. Wow!! MIRACULOUS! Thank YOU for welcoming my son and creating such a supportive and inspiring environment for him to learn and connect. I'm SO impressed with the community, educators, curriculum, culture and opportunities to engage in the Watershed world. I'm so profoundly relieved and thrilled that I too feel supported and no longer feel so alone and overwhelmed by this daunting endeavor of parenthood. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
My daughter is in her 4th year at Watershed and absolutely loves going to school. Adults are constantly amazed at her ability to thoughtfully and intelligently engage in a variety of conversations about current events, local and global issues. Where else can students learn about important issues through hands on experiences in the fields (or mountains), and engage with members of the Colorado & international communities? Whether listening to and engaging with politicians, ranchers or activists to study differing perspectives about ecology, water rights, or immigration- students simultaneously use science, literature and history to develop a three dimensional understanding of the topics at hand. Being able to travel to Guatemala, China, Iceland or many other countries is an incredible bonus!
Watershed School has been a lifesaver for my son and our entire family! After years of testing, tutors and cajoling my creative, hands-on kid to engage more in his public school, he's finally excited and thriving as a result of the dynamic, relevant and intriguing curriculum at Watershed. My son has specifically commented that he's learned more at Watershed this school year than he had in all his other years of schooling combined!
They encourage critical thinking and don't cop of with multiple choice or rote memorization tests. They challenge students with timely, thought provoking questions and curriculum that puts the onus on the students to reflect and develop their own opinions, and then share their personal experiences/beliefs in a supportive, accepting and FUN environment.
It's a super tight community that values its students and parents and goes above and beyond to create an inclusive environment that specifically addresses each student's needs, and YES pushes them to their edges (but not beyond) to help them develop the resilience to persevere. There aren't cliques and students of different ages, gender identities, socioeconomic status', sexual orientations all hang together. I've never seen or heard of a student being excluded or ostracized. I think the week long wilderness trip at the beginning of the school year creates an environment where the kids learn to depend on each other and really creates and opportunity for bonding.
We're so impressed and the staff and community at Watershed school have surpassed our expectations! Go on a school tour and see for yourself!
We love this school! All 3 of our boys attend Watershed & they love going to school everyday! The teachers & staff are incredibly talented. The philosophy of the program and the way they teach keeps the children engaged, motivated & challenged. Our boys feel safe & valued in this forward thinking community. We are so grateful to have found Watershed!
My son will soon be graduating from the Watershed School and his 6 - 12 education has been amazing. Rich with experiences and opportunities out in the real world, and meaningful classroom time, my son is more than prepared for college. One of the deepest things I appreciate about his Watershed education is the person he is becoming thanks in large part to the community he belongs to.
