Elk rut! Our family experienced one of the most amazing things ever... the rut was in full effect and we counted more than 15 bull elk and the sound of their bugles were incredible. We saw massive elk leading their harems down along the riverside. Our kids were in awe!!
The horseback ride was a truly awesome experience. Shout out to my horse, Pinkerton. The views that you'll experience can only be done from Moraine Park, on horse back with our Ohio State grad-guide (I'm so sorry I forgot her name). We'll worth every your time and $.
If you saw "The Man From Snowy River" you'll love it.
Not as busy as some other parks but one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. A must stop if your in Rocky Mountain National Park
Not many trails. It’s kind of just a stop off on your way up the mountain to RMNP but there is a cute trail that follows a fast paced creek with huge rocks. Had lots of fun jumping rock to rock, but be careful, they can be slippery. Other parts you can tell are man made areas, especially around the campgrounds. I suggest spending an hour here before you catch a shuttle to the other better trails.
I was very skeptical and anxious before this. Because it was our first time in Colorado, also we planned to stay there for a week. Never did tent camping for that long. With a 8 years old kid, our backup plan was, if it doesn't workout we can go back to a hotel or comeback home. We went there 2nd week of June. It was the beginning of their Pick season. Try to reserve your spot months before. Preferably 6 months. Not kidding.
This camping was a great positive experience for us. It get cold at night, so make sure you have packed your warm clothing. The view from our tent was breathtaking. Deer and moose are almost everywhere. I would highly recommend to invest in a good tent. It would make a huge difference in your camping experience, especially if you plan to stay there more than couple of days. Lots of wild life around that area, don't get to close to them and respect their space.
