South Platte Fly Shop

Fished the Dream Stream section of the South Platte with my son and guide Rodney. We had a terrific time! Rodney was an awesome guide. He knew the river like it was his own home! He thinks like a trout! We caught some really beautiful fish. Rodney was super attentive and helpful but also giving you space when you wanted. He is a personable guy and really enhances the enjoyment of fishing in that beautiful place by sharing his knowledge in a friendly and relaxed way. If you fish with the South Platte Fly shop, definitely ask for Rodney. It’s like fishing with an old friend!

My son and I took the 4-hour "Intro to Fly Fishing" class. Rodney took us to Decker’s. We were just hoping to maybe catch one fish a piece if lucky while learning to fly fish. We caught 8 fish between us and even had a couple of last second get aways. Rodney did an excellent job of instruction! But, he also set us up to catch some fish! We had a great time and a great memory of learning to fly fish together!

Austin and Rick were awesome on our walk / wade trip on the Dream Stream. We must have hooked seven or so for the day. Great spot and intel. Excellent instructors with lots pf patience dealing with our rookie trio.

Brett guided us on a thrilling stillwater boat trip on Spinney Reservoir where we caught six fish including four over 21". Had four get away including a possible 25"+. Brett is a true master of his craft.

We’ve done several guided trips with the South Platte fly shop over the last few years and have had amazing experiences every time. The folks in the shop are helpful and friendly. We’ve always fished with Kyle - extremely patient, laid back, and had a ton to offer both amateurs and experts alike. Kyle always puts us on trout...and the occasional grass carp that swims too close!

We can’t say enough good things about Kyle and the South Platte Fly Shop. Can’t wait to come back out!!!

If you’re thinking about getting a guide to fly fish, this is definitely the place. My son and I booked a half day trip and it was our first experience fly fishing. Our guide Ian was great, especially with my 9 year old son, who ended up reeling in 6 salmon! Mike at the shop was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and even supplied my son with a hat and sunglasses. All of the other guides we met that day from South Platte were all extremely friendly. This Indiana family can’t thank you guys enough for all the hospitality and memories you gave us this trip. I know my son and I will never forget it!
