Very neat experience! I have recently made it a goal to visit numerous national parks and sites! This one was unique being the home of Weir an American impressionist painter! They had free art supplies to borrow and use during your stay. There were tours of the home and art studios you could sign up for! There is also a pond to walk around (very quick walk) and to sit and create art! I had a great time with an old friend!
Some nice hiking/walking trails. The pond is a beautoful sight. We didn't explore much of the programs or park office, but there was a lot for art-centric people.
A large, sprawling farm where a painter enjoyed his summer months. This national park is invested in it's artistic roots, and offers opportunities for guests to learn and experiment with paints, drawing, etc.
We only had enough time for a short stay, as we were traveling that day. But we made time to stop and stroll the grounds, visit some of the artist's more famous painting locations, and take the lake trail. Weather was going to limit our visiting time, and JUST as we were preparing to wrap up our visit, the heavy rain drops started to fall. We quickly piled into our car and continued on our drive home. But if I'm in the area again, I'd like to take a painting class here!
This is the most interesting National Historic Site that I have visited and I would recommend that you go on an adventure to visit this wonderful place. They have an extensive Jr. Ranger program that child enjoy and for adults there are many interesting exhibits, great tour of the Weir House, and hiking trails. If you have a camera or are an artist plan on spending a lot of time capturing the beauty of this site.
Beautiful grounds, especially the landscaping and stone walls. It's so peaceful to walk around and see everyone painting. There's a nice, easy hiking trail that circles the Weir pond. The Farm also has two preserves beside it which offer even more hiking opportunities. Every trail I've hiked has been beautiful. Be aware that some of the preserve trails could use some maintenance, but that's no fault of the Farm itself - their grounds are very well maintained. No parking fee and great scenery will keep me coming back.
