  Its a little hard to drive in and out of, but that makes it so that its not ridiculously crowded even though its practically in DC and I went there a 4 in the afternoon on an August Sunday. But yeah, no RVs or luxury cars are going to make it to that parking lot.
  
  The water is beginner level as far as rapids go, there are very very small rapids, but I wouldn't say it would work for small children as the river is moderately fast.
  
  A membership here is pretty good for getting in shape.

  Great place for renting a kayak or canoe and hit the Potomac, much less crowded than Georgetown. Snacks and drinks available at the kiosk. They should clean up the BBQ area, grills are rusty and people leave trash behind... There's parking for bikes and cars.

  Has all the floatable goods you need. Kayaks, boats, canoes, and a nice little spot to sit by the river. Prices are terrible either. However, the water upstream can be pretty strong to go against, so I recommend being a little more experienced of you go north and prepare for a sweat. Also, the traffic coming into the parking lot is crazy and be prepared to carry your bike or kayak 200 or so feet if it sits on top of your car, as there is a very tiny tunnel that gets you to the parking lot, which is far less crowded, near the water.

  This is the fishing-oriented boat rental location in D.C. Offers bait, tackle and licenses. Persons 65 and up do not need a non-resident license. Restrooms are clean but parking is finite with some shade. A bike trail is popular. Underpass of the bike path and historic canal is narrow and low and parking above the canal is quite limited. Road access is also tricky especially on weekdays due to DC traffic - be alert.
