Unlike many other reviews posted here I originally was not using Christa West, rather a completely different midwivery organization.

However while I was 40 weeks pregnant my Midwife transitioned from breast cancer which left me. Before passing she left me with another midwife.

However when I started active labor for what would be my first baby, my newly appointed midwife was not available... Yes you read that right. I was horrified.
My Midwife explained to my partner that she was sending another midwife whom I've never met.

The now 3rd midwife asked to check my dilation which was 3cm. She without my permission pulled my cervix forward and then left, saying she would return.
My contractions quickly intensified and yet she would not respond to my partners calls/texts.

After reaching our to the former midwife and about 24 hours later she finally mentioned that another midwife would be coming by... Christa West.

The first thing I said when Christa introduced herself was "Are you saying?" She responded "yes, I'm not going to leave you."

I'm tearing up as I write this... Because her voice was the voice of an angel... Soft yet confident and ready for labor. After hours of pain and fear I knew my baby and I were in great hands. She immediately tested me and took action as I was severely dehydrated and under a state of ketosis. She monitored my baby and I every 10/15 mins, nurtured and coached me until my perfect, healthy boy was delivered. Having my first baby at home, naturally, was the most extraordinary experience of my life.. HOWEVER IT IS VITAL to have the right midwife and I will highly recommend Christa as that midwife. Christa thank you... We will love you and remember what you did for our family forever. Ps I will contact for birth of my second baby :)

Before I became pregnant, I knew I was not going to use a traditional ob/gyn for my prenatal care or birth. I had plenty of awful experiences with doctors in the past, both personally and with members of my family. Nowadays, doctors are aloof to the individual needs of their patients, and bedside manner is a thing of the past. Also, I always envisioned having my baby naturally, without medication, and in water. Most ob/gyns and hospitals do not support this practice. I found that a home birth was most in line with my birth plan. Unfortunately, because no one in my immediate circle of family or friends had chosen a home or water birth, I had absolutely no idea how to find a midwife. I searched online for midwives in my area and found several, but one stood out among the rest. As an educator, myself, there was something about reading that Christa West teaches midwifery classes that truly resonated with me. I scheduled an appointment with her when I was eight weeks pregnant. From the moment my husband and I met her, we fell in love. She is one of the kindest and most compassionate individuals I have met, and her service goes above and beyond medical care. I had a beautiful pregnancy and birth, at home and in water, unmedicated, just as I imagined. When I had to be transported to the hospital post-delivery, Christa was by my side for three hours, holding my hand and telling me that I would be okay. I could not believe she stayed with me for a full 14 hours to ensure the beginning of my recovery went smoothly. Her follow-up home sessions were filled with laughter and peace. Looking back, I know this part of her care was important: she was in touch with who I was as a woman and mother, and she recognized that I was struggling with new motherhood in these early weeks. She called to check-in with me for three straight weeks postpartum, and she always provided me with encouragement and support. I cannot imagine having gone through my pregnancy or birth without her. I love her to this day and, because of how she treated me, my husband, and my son, I consider her part of my family.

My wife and I had our first child at home in Washington State and it was an amazing experience so we wanted to replicate that with our second here in Florida. We were somewhat concerned because Florida did not seem as friendly toward this option but luckily we found Christa and knew that she was a great match. She was very attentive, flexible and accessible and made the whole process equally enjoyable. During the birth she gave my wife as much control as we wanted but jumped in when we needed or asked which resulted in a similar feeling that we wanted, that we were delivering the baby. Even though the timeline of events was opposite the second time as with our first born, I was relaxed and happy with Christa's guidance the whole time and in the end we had a perfectly healthy baby girl! If we have another, will definitely be giving Christa a call.

I highly recommend Christa for anybody that is searching for a great midwife. I am so grateful to had her as my midwife for my second birth. I had my first baby in water at home in Washington State in 2013 with a great midwife, and I was so worry I could not have the same experience here in Florida, but fortunately I found Christa. She was always there for me (any time, any day) if I had a question or a concern. She was always very helpful and provide really good information in all the topics I had questions about. She also referred me to books, documental or scientific papers that corroborate her recommendations.
She also know when to forget about the holistic way and go to the doctor if is an emergency of simply is the best for you or your baby. You want to be in the hands of somebody that can understand that not everything can be cure with alternative medicine and that sometimes the hospital is the place to go. She respected our decisions when we rejected some of the procedures or when we decided to do something our way, always putting on the table the pros and cons.
The birth of my daughter was marvelous, she is the kind of midwife that if you want to be completely in charge of your birth, she will step out or be right there if you want it that way.
She is very kind and have a lot of sympathy for you and your situation (whatever it is). She listen and give a lot of support.
We felt in love with her since the beginning, and if we have more babies, will be with her FOR SURE!

My best birthing experience, hands down!! Baby number 3 promoted me to explore a different approach to my delivery. I found Christa in my quick search. I was referred to her by someone I first contacted via google search. I went in for initial consult and it was a green light for me. She is confident in her practice and VERY knowledgeable and made me comfortable about every concern I had. She made me feel sure everything will be fine. My family was uncomfortable with the thought of my proposed approach but they are completely convinced that midwifery and the home birth yielded the best experience for us, which allowed everyone to be there and apart of the experience in the comfort of our home and gave my husband hands on delivery of our baby. Hospitals would’ve restricted most of these valuable things. I feel healthy, took a natural approach, baby is healthy and beautiful. I also did the placenta encapsulation. The best thing. Great results. I feel great. Christa is absolutely amazing. She will be seeing us for the next baby. For sure! God bless her!
