I was homeless & hungry, now I have a bed & I'm not hungry anymore...
Orientation was informative looking forward to visiting
A clean, well run homeless shelter that provides beds, laundry, dinner and breakfast for men and women. Even if you cant get a bed that night, they provide dinner to anyone that shows up every afternoon. They also leave bread out front every day for anyone to take. They even offer assistance for women with kids, which is sadly uncommon in Jacksonville. Keep in mind you have to secure a bed pretty early. Check in was 1 to 3pm last time i heard, but call them to make sure.
They also have a long term inpatient program for those with drug, alcohol, and occasionally other types of addiction or mental disorders. It's all entirely Christian centered. They provide medical services via UF health or their volunteer doctor Dr. McCarthy (who is ana amazing woman). They also provide christian-based one on one therapy during this time. Additionally there are daily group-oriented therapeutic classes which include a mixture of lecture and group discussion. As you advance through the program, you are allowed to get a job and work while you save up money to get back on your feet. These people have connections to get even the most bleak resume, whether it's from lack of work or criminal record, a job.
I've seen some amazing success stories out of this place. If you're lost or if you feel like you're in a hole you cant get out of give this place a try.
Great place for those in need. We were also able to have our small children volunteer over the Christmas break. We hope to help more
In the future.
