First off, since this may be a bit of a long review, since I have a lot to say, let me start by saying that WE LOVE THE CRENSHAW SCHOOL.

My oldest daughter went from kindergarten all the way through twelfth grade at a fairly large local private school. It was a good fit for her and we loved it there. But for my youngest, now eleven and in fifth grade? Not so much. She is highly intelligent and has been tested by a therapist who specializes in that kind of thing, and found to be "Highly Gifted". That's her official diagnosis, and she is Mensa eligible because of her IQ score. So she has the "tools" to be a good student. ( By the way, when I say "Gifted" , I'm not bragging, just stating the facts. True "Giftedness" brings it's own challenges, and if you also have a child with this diagnosis, you know what I mean. ;D. ) But my daughter is also an artist at heart. For many reasons, Fourth grade at her old school completely burned her out, and broke her spirit. Her intelligence combined with her artistic nature made her too much of a "square peg" that her old school, as good as it was, and as much as it is respected locally, simply didn't know what to do with. The classwork was easy enough for her, but the homework levels were out of control, and the amount of organization expected of her in Fourth grade in order to keep up, was just too much. It got to the point where she said she "hates to learn". This from a highly intelligent child who always hit every developmental milestone much earlier than her peers. The stress she went through last year got so bad, resulting in nightly crying fits, panic attacks, and stomach pain ( we saw many doctors about that as well ), that we eventually gave in and gave her a low dose of an antidepressant for a few months. Drugs, to make your kid be able to handle school. There's something wrong with that.

So, after thirteen years of our family being at one school, we made a change and came to Crenshaw. On my first visit, and then again on her first day here, I'll be honest and say I was a bit taken aback by the lack of all of the amenities we had our old school. But when she came home that first day, she had actually ENJOYED school again. The small class size and the relationships she has developed with the students and faculty, seem to have made all of the difference in the world. It's now late in the school year, and my wife and I can't believe how fast it has flown. No more crying fits, no more stomach pain, no more stress. She gets up easily in the mornings, is happy to go to school, and happy when we pick her up. The joyful, bouncy, artistic little girl is BACK and we are SO happy with our decision. Believe me, after that many years elsewhere, it wasn't an easy one to make.

In case you can't tell by now, we wholeheartedly recommend the Crenshaw School. I hope my novel of a review has helped someone, anyone, if you are looking for a school for you child (ren ).

Wonderful school experience for my daughter!! We came to Crenshaw in 8th grade after leaving an expensive prep school in town. We found a warm environment, friendly students and teachers who want to help the students succeed. My daughter has soared academically and socially. The school is very small so kids get to know each other well, this helps make the environment inclusive and diminishes the opportunities for "clicks". It feels like an extended family. If your child would benefit from a small environment, go visit Crenshaw for a tour.

My child has excelled this year and it's all because of the great teachers and curriculum. I'm amazed at the things he is learning at his young age. The school has a real family feel to it. The teacher to student ratio is low and gives them the attention they need instead of getting lost in a much larger class.

I am an alumni from The Crenshaw School and now my son is attending kindergarten there. I strongly recommend this school to families that are looking for A safe and fun environment where your child can feel confident and loved everyday by the teachers and friends. The education is here is about quality not quantity. You can't go wrong if you choose Crenshaw.

The purpose of a review is to provide an overall assessment. The quality of an education is not based on the location or the look and style of a brick and mortar building but the proven academic track record and results. The Stanford Achievement Test (SAT) scores for Crenshaw students speak for themselves. It is used to measure academic knowledge and conducted methodically on an annual basis by The Crenshaw School to ensure that students are provided a quality education and are reaching their full academic potential. As the saying goes, "the proof is in the pudding." Simply inquire as to the school's overall standardized scores - that has the greatest standing and substance. The proof is our eldest daughter's SAT scores in applying to some of the top universities in the country. The Crenshaw School has exceeded our academic expectations. Simply look at some the universities that graduates from Crenshaw have or are attending. There is no other school that is up to the challenge for our family in our high expectations.
