  Got there to try water skiing for first time and I was definitely on the right place!
  Lucky is great. I would give him 10 stars for customer service if that was possible.
  
  In one lesson I was already up on the skis, drove the boat around the lake, he gave me the paddle board for free.
  
  You have whole lake to yourself, water was great. You can never regret coming here.

  Short Version:
  
  Two coaching sessions and Lucky has me energized and realizing how I can work beyond some technical issues with my skiing. He pulled me behind a brand new Malibu Response TXi with 7.5 hours on it! What an amazing boat!!
  
  Long Version:
  
  I moved to Winter Haven (the next town over from Lake Alfred, FL) at the end of last year. One of the reasons I chose the area was the access to waterski-quality lakes and ski schools. Of course, then I got busy and never managed to get over to a ski school all winter! Well! Last week, I changed that. I called up Lucky and swung by for a set to test out whether I liked his approach to coaching. I liked it. Yesterday, on Memorial Day, Lucky gave me a 2nd coaching session. The passion he has for waterskiing is invigorating... energizing! People have warned me that Lucky has a different approach to getting a student through the slalom course. They had me a little concerned. I do agree that Lucky's approach is a little different, but not in a bad way. To me, his difference helped me work through a bio-mechanical issue I had in my form. Nobody else was telling me how I should position my knees. That was my thing. He had me change that first thing. Seriously, one pass through his TWELVE-buoy course, dropped at the end and Lucky was explaining how I should shift my rear knee a small degree outward and that would free up my body position in the turn. Voila! That did it.
  
  Oh, did I mention a 12-buoy course? Here's another example of a difference in coaching philosophy. I know others do this as well, but it is a driving force in Lucky's philosophy to getting students through the course. He gives you 12 buoys to get the right rhythm. If you are late at 6-ball, you are really going to notice. When you have the right rhythm at 6-ball, you'll realize you can keep that up for all 12 buoys. This helped me realize something about the cadence of getting through the course that hadn't sunk in before.
  
  Lucky has the whole lake to himself. While he doesn't legally own the whole lake, look at the satellite view and you'll only see a few houses on the lake. Most of them are a part of his compound. The only remaining house is owned by a friend of his. I don't think he takes his boat out much -- especially not when students are around. Besides the 12-buoy course, he has courses scattered around the lake for all wind directions. And, if warranted, he can pull the boat and use courses on any number of nearby lakes.
  
  I used to live within an hour of a ski school in North Carolina. I love the people at that school and attribute much of my skiing ability to them. Frankly, because I was always happy there, if I were closer to them, I would be going there still. But I'm in Florida now, which necessitates me finding a new coach. When I am in town, I plan on trying to get to Lucky's at least once every other week.
  
  My wife decided to get a coaching session with Lucky yesterday and today. She is there as I type this up. Yesterday, as she got back to the dock, she was already asking if he had room for her in his schedule for today. Again, his techniques are different, which is just what someone may need to get them to break out of a pattern!
  
  Yesterday, in order to make sure my wife was able to get as comfortable as possible, he had me do the driving. That meant he was handing me the keys to his brand new Malibu Response TXi with 7.5 hours on the engine. I'm not saying he lets everyone drive -- he has seen me use my boat on his lake for other purposes and knows I am very familiar with driving inboard skiboats -- but for my wife, he recognized it would be a surefire way to get one unknown out of the equation. Without turning this into a review for a boat, WOW. That was an amazing boat. It drive extremely well and was a dream to ski behind!
