Save Our Seabirds

I visited the Mote aquarium and had to go to the bathroom really badly before our ticketed time. Mote wouldn’t allow me to go in to use their facilities and instead told me there was one over behind this place. I would never have seen or visited Save our Seabirds otherwise. My bad experience at Mote was a blessing in disguises because I enjoyed my time here more so than I did at Mote! They have a large variety of birds. I like that they have a little information on a plaque at each enclosure, but then also have a hand out that tells their name and why they’re there. My absolute favorite out of all birds was Gabby the Cockatoo who kept telling us “Happy birthday!” Which just so happens to be my 2 year old’s favorite thing to say!

We found a very special place on our recent journey to the west coast. Right by the Moat Aquarium and research center is a Bird sanctuary for injured birds. I thought the place would be tiny since they rely on donations and maybe have a few seagulls since the name of the place was called Save Our Seabirds but I was very impressed. The place was very well maintained with each cage having their own clean pool and it was decorated to fit the natural habitat that the bird was used too. There several types of owls, herons, and many different injured birds healing from broken wings, broken beaks. They take Donations which was nice

Love this place and what they do. We took a Least Tern there we found on the beach treatment due to toxicity issues. They were helpful and nice in giving us directions and advice on transporting the sick sea bird to the facility. Once there we were greeted by staff who picked up the bird and provided us some education in what may be wrong with the bird and how it could have been exposed to toxic food and substances to cause this.

It is great we have a facility and an organization like this to save our seabirds. Donate here when you can to help keep this operation going forever.

Great little place to visit to see a variety of rescued birds. Free to visit but they also take donations if you would like to donate for a great cause. Love to see places like these that help wildlife and great for kids.

These beautiful creatures were once wounded and rescued and now either waiting to be released or in the care of humans for the remainder of their lives and on display for the public to enjoy. Even for a life long resident like myself, you can learn to identify and understand the wildlife in our own backyard. They could use donations and more volunteers to keep going if looking for a good cause.
