(May 9, 2023, 7:47 pm)Love this place! It’s so nice to get back to nature that’s not so far from home. Went with a group of friends who also have kids and spent the afternoon playing outside. Campground bathrooms were immaculate and rangers were super friendly.

(April 17, 2023, 8:53 am)Camped at Big Flats with my family the weekend of April 15th. The campsite is very nice with a fair amount of shade in the spots. The sites are a little small compared to other state parks, but not tiny. They are trying to grow new foliage between the sites and it was pretty clear there was a lot of damage to the trees from Hurricane Ian in 2022. The host, Peter, was friendly and helpful. Other campers were respectful of the quiet time. Bathrooms were dated but very clean. I would stay here again but probably wait until the weather is cooler as it was very hot in the day and there is no water area like a lake or spring to cool off. The Myakka Lake is FILLED with gators so there is no swimming.
Incredible sunsets from just down the street over Big Flat Marsh where we saw deer, turkey and gators. -

(May 13, 2022, 12:43 pm)Our favorite place to camp. We’ve been going every spring for the past 3 years. Seen deers with baby’s walk by our site a few times. The sunsets can be spectacular but be ready for bugs. Hey it’s camping.
