It's a great trail to venture out and enjoy the outdoors..... I actually saw someone walking barefooted and really enjoying the trail....all I could say was WOW!!! That's really enjoying mother nature...
What an amazing trail! Did not see any black bears, but we loved the tropical atmosphere and the nice people. Saw some alligators, turtles and LOTS of heron. Would definitely recommend this!
This trail has something for everyone. From beautiful canopies to swamps, boardwalks to dikes, walk along the St John's or stray on and off of the wooded paths. You can do the whole loop or in and out it in sections. A true gem????
What a great day hike! We did the 7.1 miles. The landscape changed every half mile or so. Sometimes steamy, sometimes green, sometimes loud with birds, other times quiet with a breeze. We saw quite a few gators, lots of birds, but no bears this trip. Definitely recommend!
What a beautiful Seminole County trail that they have maintained for the public. It is a 7.1 Mile hike through four very diverse systems. If you begin the loop tour to the right you will walk towards a prairie as it progresses into a swamp area. The trail begins to become harder as more and more tree roots flood the path toward the St Johns River. Do to the two hurricanes last year, the tree rooted Trail around the St Johns River is pretty steep, eroded and in certain parts you will walk sideways on the trail. The trail finally starts to level out a little when you get away from the wetlands and you go towards the forested area underneath the wild Citrus trees. By the time you hit the 5.5 mile marker it starts to even out of it as you begin to walk back towards the parking area. My family and I saw 8 alligators multiple species of birds, squirrels and of course the occasional turtle on the trail. We did however see no bears. My recommendation is if you are a novice hiker or walker you may just want to hike one mile or so in and then the one mile back to the parking area as it gets progressive more difficult and strenuous the further you hike. All in all, a fantastic trail!
