Nice relaxing place
We drove through from st Augustine beautiful area
Visited the park to complete the trail which is part of the Florida State Forest Trailwalker Program. Trail is about 1 miles long. Trail is well marked and I had a map printed out from the Florida State Forest website - it was very easy to follow as the trail has several check points.
I stayed here over Wednesday and Thursday nights. I was in campsite 8. There was not another person in the campground the entire time I was there. It was wonderful. Campsite 8 is the smallest of all the campsites but perfect for 1 or 2 campers. I saw plenty of wildlife and even had a bear sighting. It was amazing. If you are planning on camping here please know that firewood is hard to find unless you get off the beaten path. There is a lot of wood if you get off the main road and explore a little bit. The bathroom was very clean and large. It is even handicap accessible. The water pump is nice but you cannot drink the water. Bring plenty of your own for drinking and washing dishes or whatnot. The pump water is perfect for washing hands. Campsite 8 has no shade from about 10:00 am until about 3:00 pm during the month of January. Bring a tarp and some rigging to give you a little relief from the sun. Hiking is great and if your quiet enough the wildlife is all over. You are also close to the St. John's river by a short walk or drive past the campsite. It is a fee area but I am unsure if that goes for campers as well. If you like getting out and having a great experience this is the place.
I brought my kids with me this time, we did the Bluffton Interpretive Trail located here. Eight-year-old Jasmine and five-year-old Dominick had a blast and so did I!! The trail was clean and well-maintained, there is a picnic area at the entrance, it’s a short trail perfect for little kids and there’s plenty of different plant life to take photos of. The only thing I would say to watch out for is the mosquitoes, especially when it was raining for two days previously...No I didn’t think that through. ???? But especially watch out for the palm sized spiders which will be spinning their human sized webs directly over the walking path. We had to wait for one to get back to the top of his massive web, and then we ran under it and screamed like babies. But we made it and we are not chicken!!
