Kary Pekarek has changed my life for the better. I never though such magnificent results could come out of therapy until I began closely working with her. Kary offers solutions and high caliber expertise that are total game changers!

Dr. DiMatteo is hands down the best psychiatrist you can find in the Chicagoland area. Here is why:

    1) He's incredibly patient, beyond belief, but he never falls behind, respecting both your time and the next patient waiting. You never really feel rushed even when he has to move it along so that the next patient won't have to wait, and if ever your concerns and questions can't fit into the length of your appointment, he does as much as he can right then and there, and on the spot schedules another appointment to continue, making notes to not forget the discussion or where you left off. His memory is spectacular. He's also mastered the art of quick thinking and being accurate at the same time.

    2) He so respectful to you; parents, children, young adults, and any other family members, and he gives both them and you the courtesy to have not just half a brain, but a full intelligent one, and capable of having your own good scholarly insights, treating you as if you were a colleague, which is something many doctors don't do - getting impatient, irritable, offended, or pious if you question their choices or reasoning or lack of clear explanation in the allotted time. Not Dr DiMatteo!! He is never afraid to learn, or to have to find a new way to explain something better to you so that you can understand him and learn yourself. Not once in the past five years has he ever shown irritableness or annoyance or arrogance. He has never disregarded our comments and concerns or brushed over them to redirect to his preferred concerns and not yours, rather making sure to address both

2.5) your children get the same respectful camaraderie and partnership as you do.

    3) he listens so well, restates to be absolutely sure no double meaning,

    4) he explains everything clearly in layman's terms, even answers to your questions, it's like a mini college course at every meeting, and you walk away more knowledgeable and wiser,

    5) he is very detailed oriented in taking notes and entering your answers, insights and concerns directly into your account on his laptop (so efficient, no chicken scratch to have to decode later on if ever you had to ask for a copy of your records,)

    6) he is truly loving and compassionate to kids, speaking respectfully to them, not like they are little kids, but like they are already adults; he just substitutes their lingo. ;)

    7) he has a deep desire to hone in on the exact need or treatment, willing to listen to a parent's intelligent thoughts and ideas as well, and contemplate them right then and there.

    8) he is resourceful in referring you for non-psychiatric needs in ways that enrich your family, and he will always brainstorm for you about anything you are concerned about or challenged by,

    9) he is charming with a good sense of humor.

    10) he is extremely educated, current, and scholarly, but in a warm and friendly way (who knew a doctor could do that?!?!) Dr. DiMatteo takes the cake in that department.

    11) and last but not least, he has just as charming and loving of a support staff. The ladies at the front desk have the warmest and kindest hearts, and are so helpful and supporting.

Dr DiMatteo has done wonders for our family and our children, and where there was no solution or way around a problem we had, he found resources and ideas to help us through it. He walked beside us through the toughest times and some of the darkest valleys. That's right. He. Walked. Beside. Us. That is how good of a man he is.

My advice? Keep your heart humble, your mind open, your spirit eager to learn. Be honest. Be vulnerable. Be earnest. Don't project your anger onto them, but you don't have to hide that you ARE angry - Dr DiMatteo handles it well; is soothing. Have compassion, kindness, and patience of your own if you want to receive it in return. They will of course be compassionate and kind to those who are not, but let's face it, they are human too and can have a breaking point I'm sure, (however, I never saw that now that I think of it.) Then, Wellspring Clinical will be the best care you can find.

Dr. DiMatteo really listens to his patients and involves them in decisions. He's open to trying patient suggestions (unless they're bad, obviously). I'd recommend him to anyone.
