Kee Firearms and Training

My husband an I took the Conceal and Carry course and felt our instructor did an excellent job! We took the course because we knew nothing about guns.
We both held FOID cards, but did not own any guns!
Now we feel confident about owning a firearm, because of the great amount of information that was taught!

I found out about Kee Firearms from a colleague and signed up for their FREE concealed carry course.

1st thing first, the course is 16-hours long. There is no getting around that State requirement.

Davell does his best with giving the information in a way that helps move the class along.

He does come off as a drill sergeant but his passion about safety comes through.

The registration process was easy but here are the sticky areas:

-Signing in the day of class took awhile as they collected fees at the same time. I'm wondering if that could have been done in advance.

-Getting assigned a range time is maddening. It comes at the end of our 12-hour day and is not done efficiently. Everyone is ushered out of the classroom to stand around the counter, give our IDs to someone for copies and then our IDs and copies are given back to us to be stapled to our ticket for the range and liability sheet. This is a process that could have been done earlier. I recommend collecting that information earlier or even during the fingerprinting time just to move things along.

Everything else was good.

The range day was good. Gavin was a good instructor. I was able to shoot 30/30.

Instructor and training content will help you to better understand the safe and legal firearm requirements specially for the state of Illinois. The instructor brings real life experiences that helps understand applicability of law in specific circumstances. The instructor will also help you identify opportunities to improve your accuracy and precision. This training could be the closest military training style that you could experience as a civilian.
Highly recommended.

The instructor was extremely knowledgeable and provided detailed information that was pertinent to obtaining and passing the concealed carry course and helping us become responsible gun owners. I was a little thrown off by not knowing ahead of time that we had to go to a separate location for the range portion of the class, but the instructor and staff made sure we knew prior to leaving the first day of class. More information on the website regarding the structure of class or details regarding range time would be helpful. Also if you are able to add fans to help control the heat in the classroom that would be great. Overall very satisfied with the instructor and course.

Overall the course was great!
There is only a couple of things that I would do different.
1. Having more time explaining the legality of firearms (when to use and when you shouldn't, perhaps more cases as examples)
2. Spend less time with the shooting basics (it's really important to know the basics but it feels like they emphasize too much on it, I would change the scope towards the legality)
