A beautiful building to say the least!
I tried to visit it On St. Patrick's Day (a Sunday) but they were closed ????
I'm just a lost Irish Lass looking for long forgotten roots. I wish you had been open on this Special Holiday (to me)
I'll upload the photos I took that day. In hopes more people will visit your museums and other historical properties!
Sincerely,
Danielle

IT'S AWESOME! Last time I was here the collection was in the basement of the courthouse. Now its in its ow. building and bigger and better than before! Lot of old cars very well restored. Many dinosaur bones found in farm fields of the area!!! Huge gun collection that dates back to pirate days on the high seas! Oh youll spend a day here easy and still not see it all. Worth the trip and good for the young and old both.
A definite must to take in. A lot to see and learn about the history of La Porte County. I even recommend going to folks who've lived in the area their entire life. It's amazing what you don't know about your own 'backyard'.
Very clean Museum! Has something for what ever interests you about the area. Good for children!
I went to find information on Kingsbury Ordnance Plant. I discovered quite a trove of historical details on what is extremely rare. The bonus in my visit was meeting several of the many DEDICATED volunteers who keep this invaluable asset in order and USEFUL. The County Historian, Fern Eddy Schultz is a treasure of knowledge of Laporte County AND much of surrounding counties. I was met with a very positive welcome. Everyone I met was enthusiastic and worked to fulfill my mission. I asked to see every document they had on KOP, expecting they would not have much. To my joyful surprise, within 20min at most they assembled and laid out a large table covered with so many publications. All were original and in great condition preserved nicely. Each item was "tagged" with meta data that was also valuable in my mission.
The museum is rich with information. I have no idea what their budget is, but these volunteers are admiral in their efforts. I hope the County values it's citizens who make history by supporting this history archive for generations to come.
