Earlier in the summer I ran over a tire which knocked out the AC in my 2006 Prius. I took it to my mechanic (a Meineke), he said it was probably a hose, turns out it killed my condenser, or so I was told, and charged $600 to replace it. Two weeks later, my AC is blowing warm air when it's 100 degrees out. I take it back, they say my compressor is shot, that I needed a new one, $1600! That's maybe half of what the car is worth! I took to John Tippet and he found me one for $900 but tried to fix the AC first. He refilled it and the AC was cold again, drove it for a week, still cold, no leaks. Turns out it was something simple as a stuck valve from someone rushing when disconnecting the Freon after replacing the condenser. He only charged me for the Freon and one hour labor, and saved me $900! Tippet is now my new mechanic.
