Cannot say enough about the exceptional care my family and I received both during and after my dad’s passing. From the moment they were notified we were in need they jumped into action -seriously, they did. Dad had a stroke and I took him to the ER knowing he had in place ‘no intervention’ paperwork. I just panicked. The ER knew the only thing they could advise was hospice; and called for the Cranberry Hospice Coordinator who, thankfully, was already in the building. Hospice was a scary word and I was fearful that they would step in, take over and keep the family at bay. Oh, how wrong I was.

Debbie came to see us quite quickly. She kindly and patiently explained the process to me (us) of how Cranberry Hospice would support us during dad’s passing process, that they would be as involved as I needed them to be and no more. The control freak I am, with regards to my dad’s health, was reassured that I was still ‘in charge’. Phew!

Once I agreed to hospice, Debbie kicked into action - I mean jumped! She was on the phone arranging to have a bed delivered to dad’s house to arrive within 1 hour. Then she called every pharmacy in the area until she found a mom and pop pharmacy that had in stock the medicine we would need to keep dad calm and reduce any pain/discomfort he would experience. She even called in a favor and the pharmacy stay open a few minutes late so I could get there and we could have the medicine for that night, otherwise it would have been the next day before we could begin helping dad. We were strangers to her and she cared that much. No gift I’ve ever received means more to me and I will forever be grateful.

The bed arrived and was set up within the hour. The nurse was there in less than 90 minutes - dad wasn’t even home from the hospital. She sat patiently with me for almost 2 hours waiting for the ambulance to bring him home. Every time I said, “I’m sorry” I was met with a gentle reassuring, “I am happy to sit with you”. Not exaggerating. Once she settled him in bed, she showed me how to administer the medication but let me know I wouldn’t need to do it as they would come whenever I called to do it for me. Again, control freak stepped up and insisted I would be fine doing it myself and did not see the need to bother anyone. She was so kind in her understanding, reassuring me that they are on call 24 hours a day and wanted me to ‘bother’ them - for anything. There was more talk and instruction - no need to go into all that, but suffice to say I was more than prepared to meet all of dad’s needs. Or so I thought. I ‘bothered’ them at least 3 times that first night.

The nurses came at minimum twice a day to check in making sure dad was comfortable and that I, we, were being cared for too. They made us feel safe. They helped us to be empowered. They prepared us gently for the events leading up to his passing.

My dad passed comfortably, listening to me sing off key while wrapped tighly in the embraces of his daughter and granddaughter. I am fortunate to say I have no idea what procedures and notifications are involved when a person passes because Cranberry Hospice did everything for me. Literally everything. Coroner, funeral home, and whatever else - I have no idea. I was left to just be with my family and grieve.

In the 8 months that have passed, Cranberry Hospice has stayed in touch with me and each member of our immediate family checking in and offering support if needed. At first it was nice, then it was a tad annoying, until it wasn’t. A letter arrived the other day; it came at just the moment a family member needed it. Those check ins are invaluable.

I can tell you the passing was hell. I can tell you Cranberry Hospice made the unbearable bearable. I can tell you every member of my family is deeply thankful to Cranberry Hospice. I can tell you choosing this organization was, in retrospect, a blessing. And I can tell you, with all certainty, I would choose them again.

Please give yourself and your loved one the gift of Cranberry Hospice. They are everything and more.

Absolutely great the way they treated my Sister and family members several months ago. Healing has begun - Thank you

Couldn't help but notice a poor rating from a Paula G, who rates McDonald's as 5 stars. Shame on you!

My family can't say enough good things about this hospice group. They were great to my Dad, and to our family.
