  Very interesting site. Sorry we were there on a Saturday and it was closed. The buildings and the stone work are impressive, if we get back to town on a weekday we will revisit.

  Wonderful place to visit and learn how the white man abuse Natives. Very sad but very educational.

  Free. Beautiful grounds but you can only visit the cultural center / museum. The exhibits are nice but brief. Bravo for the State of Neveda to face past wrongdoings and brave enough to apologize. The words "genocide of the Indian culture and language" were used!

  For some reason I was under the impression this school was still open when in fact only one building is open, a musuem/research/culture center; while other buildings have been re-purposed for state agencies and the remaining structures have been shuttered and left to ruin. The grounds are very well kept, in sharp contrast to some of the dilapidated buildings. There is an audio walking tour that visitors can complete by calling the posted phone # and selecting the appropriate location. There was a gentleman working at the culture center who was a former student of the school! He was very knowledgeable and full of first hand accounts of what the school was like for the students. Very interesting place to stop and get a perspective on how the natives were treated.

  This place should be swarming with visitors. A fascinating look at the complex history of the Stewart Indian School. The small but mighty myseum/cultural center has great exhibits on the evolution of the school alongside memories shared by former staff and students. You can also tour the grounds.. Many of the school buildings still stand and some are in use for POST training. Others are closed up but I believe there's a push to rehab and reopen the old gymnasium some day. I hope the state of Nevada will pony up the dough to fully restore the entire campus. And did I mention that as of now, there's no charge to go in and that the staff and volunteers are all super nice and helpful? If you're near Carson City, this is a must visit.
