Great school if you're interested in an accelerated curriculum. Grad requirements are higher than most schools, however the way the curriculum is constructed is such that it doesn't have too big of an impact on what you take. Expect 2 hours of homework regularly, and both the teachers and other students are all very friendly and helpful
My daughter wants to enroll here next year, 7th grade, because MACS is most likely going to K-5 grades only. What are the “Walls Issue”? Is that really a thing?? Do most people think this school is better than your local “non-private” one?
She does want to try it and does have a few students that she’s talked to about the school. It’s supposably a great school with a lot of homework. That’s What I’ve been told so far.
Please Advise myself & my family if any insight I should be aware of?
Thanks!
If I am to be honest, I was initially skeptical of the school. Even through my years spent drifting through its halls, I did not realize the true value of the Academy. It is whilst Iooking back at the years of my youth that I realize the benefits the education I had received during my time at the school had yielded.
Underfunded and set in an office building, the school had set a low expectation for itself in my first days. The classes were challenging, but they prepared me for High School, which was significantly easier. Half the teachers at ASD are there because they want to be there, and are excellent teachers, the other half are not teachers at all, but the whole community is driven by the pursual of knowledge, something that sets your mind set for years to come. The level of education is automatically raised because the standards are higher, and the standards are higher because the children that attend are more driven. Regarding the high school, many have said that it is unsatisfactory, and you should be aware of the fact that they do not offer AP's.
This is an amazing school! The academic curriculum is challenging and rigorous, preparing students well for high school. The teachers are extremely qualified and ensure that students understand the material to an advanced level. ASD offers a variety of courses that allow students to explore different fields and choose what fits them best. Overall, the Academy for Science and Design is one of the best schools in America and I definitely recommend enrolling your child here.
