(October 21, 2018, 8:53 pm)This 344 acre wetland is a beautiful preserve along the Maurice River. The 160-foot-long boardwalk and observation platform from which you can observe the changes with the tide and the changes with the seasons. At this freshwater tidal area one may be able to watch Bald Eagles, Osprey, Red-tailed hawks, Cooper's Hawks, Sharp-shinned Hawks, Red-winged Blackbirds, Green-winged Teal, Mallards and Northern Pintails. Flora to see include Wild rice, Red Cedar, Atlantic White Cedar, Virginia Pine, Pitch Pine, Oak Holley, Maple, Sweet Gum and Black Gum and lichen.
The Peek Preserve is a little tricky to find just google directions and don't use 2100 South 2nd Street, Millville, NJ and pull in when you see the mailbox. The preserve may seem closed d when you first pull up because the gate is shut and locked just park between the trees.
NOTE: try to avoid going while the local race track is running a race as the noise is very loud. -
