  Stopped by for a late dinner, starters were great! Wings and hot pretzel. BBQ chicken more than I could finish and cooked to perfection. Ended with a Lisbon Mule, wow. Will definately be back. Very relaxed atmosphere with great food.

  The food is absolutely, especially seafood. If its a rice dish you are ordering, consider sharing if you have an asian petite appetite. As amazing as the food is, this place loses a star because of the dessert. They need to stop making the dessert super early and putting it in the fridge. Have been there three times, each trying a different dessert, and they all smell of fridge coolant. You can tell its been in there for some time. If you are looking for a dessert, recommend going elsewhere. But for everything else, this place is amazing.

  So, Joia is truly an eclectic gem in the recently gentrifying area of south Harrison. The menu, while inspired by Portuguese tastes, is actually quite diverse and there is likely something to find for everyone in your group. Everything is freshly prepared in their open kitchen, and the bread is baked on site as well. Servers/bartenders/manager are friendly and accommodating.
  
  All the dishes that we have tasted have been spectacular (highly recommend the shrimp cake appetizer), and they are also constantly trying new specials to mix it up, and likely get a feel for their new clientele. Seafood is very fresh, and the meat they buy is tender, juicy and flavorful. The fact that the kitchen is open, makes it quite a show, with staff bringing out giant skewers of meat to slice right on to your plate reminiscent of some of the greatest churrascarias I have been to.
  
  Wine and drink list is extensive, and the bartenders are always willing to give a suggestion as to try new things. I recently tried the national drink of Brazil, Caipirinha, and it is quite delicious, reminds me of rum with a smoky, citrus/lime accent.
  
  Parking can be tricky. They do have valet, and there is some on street parking available, but with the recent construction in the area, that might change in the future. They are quite close to the PATH station, and would be a great place to stop for a drink or dinner after leaving the madness that is Manhattan.
  
  My wife and I have met the owners, and they seem to be a great family, having owned restaurants in the past, and their charm seems to flow into all of the staff that they have hired. Here's hoping that they find success in this newly-growing area of Harrison!

  Everything I want it to be, Joia is your Portuguese-Ferry Street restaurant staple with modern tidings. My group tried most of the appetizers, and all were solid to great. My favorite were the clams - easily the best clam recipe I've had in the Ferry St area. I had the Portuguese Julep - and was delighted by a heavy-pour rocks glass. They did not skimp out. Looking forward to going back with my family to try out the Main Plates.
