Walk in. Float out. The best money I have spent on my sciatica.

For history, I have lived with right hip and sciatic pain for about 17 years. I manage a regular life except a few times a month when it flares up to include right-side pain from head to toe. When that happens, I have difficulty concentrating, sitting or doing much of anything. Over the years, I have worked to resolve my pain by working with many excellent practitioners. I have seen chiropractors and physical therapists, done laser therapy, private training, acupressure, massage, stretching, somatics, and yoga. I followed the treatment protocols for each and enjoyed some relief along the way. I also work as a healer and one of my clients was talking about how grateful she is to her acupuncturist. My ears perked because I realized that this was a modality I had not tried. I was in a flare-up and highly motivated to get some help. I did a search and came up with a small list of names. I called two acupuncturists on the list: person “a” and Vickie. Vickie did not have an opening for several days and I needed something now. I made a same-day appointment with person “a”. “A” did a short intake, placed some needles along the sciatic nerve and left me for 30 minutes in a darkened room. I think this is what you can expect from most acupuncturists. It’s hard to explain what it feels like. There is a small sting when the needle goes in and then I felt vibrations where the needles were, I flushed and got hot. Clearly something was happening. It was pleasant and gave me a few days of relief. This was great, but not different than the other modalities. I have no complaint and think there was nothing wrong with person “a”. I am guessing that this is what you can expect from a typical acupuncture appointment. I was curious to see how it would be with a different acupuncturist. I scheduled a session with Vickie. It was an amazing experience. She spent two hours with me. She asked questions and listened to my answers. She devoted her attention to me during that time. I felt heard and she gave me some concrete things I could do to improve my life when I left. I was already making changes the following two weeks. What makes Vickie unique is that she focuses on one person at at time. She is actively engaged in current research and being an excellent acupuncturist. It’s clear that she has put great thought into her space and it supports the process. She is warm, personable and fun. I walk in and float out. If you are thinking of trying acupuncture or a new acupuncturist, I would recommend you try Vickie.

When my infertility doctor recommended that I use acupuncture to help support my IVF treatments, I was skeptical. I was also nervous – I had never done acupuncture before. During my first phone conversation with Vicki, I immediately knew it was worth my time to at least try this approach. Vicki is an incredibly thoughtful and caring person, and I thoroughly enjoyed my treatments and my time with her. She starts every session with a discussion about how things are going, what current issues or challenges may be, and she tailors her treatment to those needs. I saw her for several months prior to IVF treatments and then during treatment. She was extremely flexible and helped me find times that worked around the IVF schedule and my busy professional schedule. I’m thrilled to share that I am the mother of 2 lovely girls – and I attribute much of my husband’s and my success in getting pregnant to Vicki. I strongly recommend Vicki. She is a wonderful person and acupuncturist.

I had a very strong pain in my foot, due to plantar fasciitis, for about two years and could not do any physical activity. I had tried all the conventional medecine methods - pain killers, antibiotics, injections, wearing a boot, physical therapy and stretching my leg at night for months, but nothing really helped and I was hopeless. Several people told me to try acupuncture, but I was very scared to start such treatment, as I had bad past experiences and I am scared of needless. Vicky has been very patient with me as one of her most needles reticent patients, looked into various solutions and types of treatments, worked with me step by step and in about three months the improvement was incredible. I have seen her a couple of times afterwards, for maintenance, but I haven't seen her in three months now and the pain is gone (the tangent with her started 10 months ago). I returned to my regular activities and I am very thankful for everything she had done. Warmly recommend her to anyone.

I work at a high stress office job that requires a lot of sitting and typing. Even with a standing desk, and focus on correcting my posture and ergonomics, I still had what felt like a uncomfortable baseball sized knot in my upper back, shoulder, and neck area. I tried stretching and yoga. I tried deep tissue massages twice a week for over a month; nothing was breaking up the knot. Fearful that it could go from bad to much worse, I decided to try acupuncture (remembering how much it helped in lower back pain; yes I'm only in my early 30's). After a bit of research, I found Jade and Cinnabar Acupuncture, which was close to my home and also had great reviews. The website (under New Patients > Services and Fees) listed reasonable pricing as well, so I decided to check it out.

The Acupuncture center is shared with a dentist's office. Don't let that fool you! The waiting area is clean, and the reception staff for the dentist's office is friendly and works with Vickie to let her know you have arrived. Her studio consists of a consultation room and the acupuncture room, which are both warm and inviting. Vickie is a fantastic one woman show! The consultation is VERY thorough. The forms are kind of long but it is SO worth the effort! Other clinics I've been to have two different nurses come in, and leave, and come in, and leave, and then you see the doctor for 5 minutes, breezing through the papers quickly, etc etc. Jade and Cinnabar is different: Vickie's set up is very personalized, she actually goes line by line through the forms, and she asks a lot of questions to really get a sense of underlying problems to confirm a diagnosis. You can tell she cares about her patients!

From arrival to departure, the entire experience is very personalized. Other acupuncturists will stick some needles directly where the problem exists and leave the room to tend to other patients. With Jade and Cinnabar, you are the ONLY patient! There are no other appointments or distractions. Vickie watches to see how the treatment is going, and uses her knowledge and experience to find the right points to solve more systemic problems (not just the immediate issue). She has an amazing understanding of how all of the points in our body are connected. The only thing crazier than seeing needles being placed in my left hand to alleviate my right shoulder, was that it actually worked (I couldn't stop laughing)! I was also surprised at how little the needles hurt, I almost didn't even feel them! Now I visit to maintain my shoulder, but also maintain my lower back, anxiety and stress. She also performs Gua Sha, which is a traditional Chinese medical treatment in which the skin is scraped to produce light petechiae (thanks, Wikipedia!) This might be my favorite part. It feels amazing, like a massage, but it helps blood flow in the areas where it needs it most. It even helped my circulation in my hands and feet (which used to be cold all the time!)

Vickie is professional and easy going, so there was no pressure (no pun intended) with pushing for products or follow up visits. She does take credit cards and will also work with you and your insurance company (should they cover acupuncture treatments). I highly recommend Jade and Cinnabar for the price point, personalized service, cleanliness, and experience!

My 14 year old son plays basketball at a highly competitive level. He was suffering from intense heel pain and was unable to practice for over a week. With only one day before a major tournament, I decided to take him to see Victoria at Jade and Cinnabar. She took the time to fully understand his symptoms and his health history. She then proceeded with acupuncture and within 30 minutes his pain had significantly subsided. By the end of the 60 minute session he was completely pain free and was able to play in his tournament that weekend without issue.

The office is clean and Victoria is very accommodating. I would highly recommend Jade and Cinnabar. I must admit I was initially a skeptic, but I am now a believer. I have even seen her for some of my own aches and pains that she has helped to alleviate.
