I've been to every fly shop that I could find in my area... probably a 60 or 80 mile radius...and there are some really good shops out there, but this one, unsolicited, offered me to actually go out and cast some rods and lines to find out what I needed. I'm 53 years old and have been going to tackle shops basically my whole life...and willingly spending copious amounts of money at them. This is exactly the 3rd shop ever that actually offered me that service, even though I wasn't looking at rods...just talking about lines. Well done.

You know what I did? I decided on the spot to buy a new Ross reel and Rio fly line from them. I was going to get one soon anyhow and was most likely going to go the easy route of just ordering the setup on line, probably saving a few bucks...just the kind of thing these local shops have to compete with every single day. Because of their generous offer and great attitude, I decided on the spot to put my money into their shop.

They spooled up my new reel and line with the backing of my choice...backing was included for free...and even gave me the choice of attaching the backing to the line via loop connection or nail knot. Again... that's good service.

I didn't get to take them up on their casting offer due to time constraints, but I will absolutely be coming back to this shop as I will soon be looking to get a new 9' 5wt. rod. When you are thinking about spending $700 to $1100 hard earned bucks on a new rod, I'm going back to the shop that offers me this service, period.

In all fairness I'll mention that Golden Stone Outfitters in Lafayette NJ and Cross Current Outfitters in Starlight PA were the other two shops who, without asking, offered me to go outside and test cast anything I was interested in... credit where credit is due.

Edit...today I went back to try out some rods. Worked with Mike and he couldn't have been more helpful. Went out back to the lawn with three rods and had a great experience. After casting the three, we both agreed that my casting style worked best with a Scott and I couldn't be more happy.

Also picked up a new line for this rod and Mike took the old line off a reel I brought in and put the new line on. Good service.

My boys had the pleasure of taking their first guiding trip with Andrew about a month ago. We travel from Florida to visit family in the New York area and love to visit the shop. Andrew and Nancy are extremely helpful and welcoming, such a great family atmosphere. Andrew has taken the time to teach my boys how to make flies so when he offered to guide them I jumped at the opportunity! Now they are hooked on fly fishing! Thank you Andrew and Nancy! We will definitely be back!

I own a place in Deposit, NY that backs into the West Branch of the Delaware rive. That area of NY State has many fine fly shops but I don’t think any of them have more helpful or knowledgeable employees than Tight Line. Whether it’s fly tying, Spey casting, or euro nymphing, someone there can help you out.
Even though I spend most of my fishing time in NY 95% of my fly fishing buying is done at Tight Line.

This fly shop is awesome! Erik was very helpful in helping me find the perfect 9 wt inshore striper rod for my casting style and fishing environment. He was very knowledgeable and was able to give me a lot of feedback on many of the rods they carry because he personally fishes a lot of them. I was also able to cast all the models I was interested in which is way better than ordering something online and then not liking the way it casts. I highly recommend this shop for their great selection, great prices and knowledgeable staff! Thank you, can’t wait to hook into a big NE striper this summer!
