Visited Saturday around noon. Hours were wrong on Google maps. Attached picture showing current Sat/Sun hours.
Lady there was very nice and answered all our questions.
There is a small museum (one room) with some history info panels, as well as some ore samples. Probably 10-15 minutes to see everything.
Public restrooms and water fountain.
Free entrance.
Free maps of the park, which was really helpful. If you are hiking on some of the back trails where the mines are, you will 100% want a map so you can get around without getting lost.
I was very glad it was open. My kids liked the small exhibit.
As this center is on the way to the park and it is probably a 30 second detour, I would absolutely recommend taking a quick stop here.
The visitor center for the park is located in the center of town a few minutes from the actual park. An excellent place to stop on the Turquoise Trail. It has restrooms, shaded picnic tables and across the street is a bar and a general store. The Store has snacks, drinks and an ice cream cooler. I would recommend stopping here if you have your own lunch instead of Madrid, as Madrid tends to get very crowded and congested.
Incredible State Park! Miles of hiking or horseback riding trails. There were over 1100 mines in the hills!
Great resource for local history and everything you need to know about the park. The rangers are great and lead guided hikes in the park, and there are frequently talks at the visitor center, including period characters talking in depth about their lives and historical contributions. Quite a lot to offer in such a small town.
The center is small and manned by volunteers - it's got a very nice display of mining equipment, photos and rock specimens. The park had really nice events - like solar viewing and geology walks.
