  Recently visited this bar with a few mates for some food and drinks, I'd never been before so asked the bartender for some recommendations on the food, a gentleman sitting at the bar advised me to try the French onion dumplings, I took his advice and all I can say is WOW. They were nothing short of amazing, bursting with flavour. We ordered a few other dishes but the meatballs stole the show, never tasted meatballs like it before, melted in my mouth. Top class. Bar itself was really nice and relaxed, staff were very friendly and attentive. I'll definitely be returning for the meatballs when I'm in the Bronx again.

  Went to this bar/restaurant two weeks ago on a trip to the Bronx. It was nothing short of superb. There were two of us & we asked our waiter (Anthony I think his name was) to bring us a selection on starters & mains. The food was amazing..so delicious & really generous portions. The menu is varied with all kinds of dishes to suit everyone. Service was fast but didn't seem rushed at all. We tried a couple of different cocktails as we spent quiet a while here enjoying our experience & loved all of them. The bar/restaurant itself was spotless with a really welcoming feel. I hope my impression of this fabulous place came across, it's the best food we ate while on our trip. Overall I would not hesitate in recommending this fantastic place to everyone. I can't wait to go back. Keep up the great work ????

  The first time I came here with my boyfriend I immediately fell in love. If it were up to me, I’d come here every day.
  The food is AMAZING!!!! The customer service never ceases to amaze me. The staff is GREAT!!!!!
  I highly recommend this place!

The two close friends met four years ago, working long hours behind bars making drinks and washing glasses. Now the duo have launched their own business, Tortoise & Hare, which officially opened on June 2. The bar pays homage to Van Cortlandt Park, as it is named after the statue that directly faces the establishment.
