Brooklyn Aikikai

As a foreign person, I had the opportunity to be there only once, but I know this place and people are unique. There is a huge passion, hard work, warm-hearted people and the spirit! If you are thinking about aikido, you should definitely be at this amazing place!

Brooklyn Aikikai is a fantastic place. I drove every week after school from long island city to bring my girls here. I moved from the city last year and was very sad we had to end classes. Kate is an amazing instructor, all the staff are amazing people.

This is a wonderful place, Kate-Sensei and the rest of the staff do a great job of communicating Japanese culture and the serious side of Aikido while also relating very well to kids and making it fun and interesting for them. The result is my child has continued to be very inspired.

The Brooklyn Aikikai is one of the most remarkable institutions to which I've ever belonged. The head instructor has created a community that is welcoming, compassionate, kind, and devoted. The training is physically and psychologically intense and rewarding. It is a place and a group of people that inspires me to live a better kind of life. Certainly if you are looking for rigorous and traditional training in Aikido, this is the place to be. The BA also teaches Zen and Misogi. The head instructor teaches all the classes except when he is traveling, and the senior students are fantastic.

Brooklyn Aikikai is not a superficial martial art school. Sensei Savoca has dedicated his life to the study of aikido... It's his day job. There isn't a better aikido school in all of Brooklyn. The community is fantastic everyone actually cares about each other. On top of the the opportunity to train with a teacher who has spent 30+ years practicing aikido we also do body conditioning every noon class, Tuesday and Friday evenings. In the course of a year I have lost 40 pounds and, frankly, I'm in the best shape of my life. Activities that use to exhaust me barley cause me to break a sweat now.
