I wish rescue for every species was this easy. Erica, Thank you. You were warm and reassuring. I don't doubt that every animal that comes across you has imprinted on you. I feel in my heart you are a Mama to many in your care. I have no doubt that the 3 fledglings and 2 tiny baby pigeons are in perfect hands and will make a full recovery to later be released. Thank you again Erica and staff
Woke up to an injured pigeon in my driveway this morning, I watched it sit in one spot on my driveway for 20 minutes and then when I went down to capture it, it would open its wings and try to fly but couldnt, and then try to wobble away but would keep falling on its face. I managed to get it into a box and drove it to Wild Bird Fun right away. They were so caring and let me know that they would do a full assessment and that I could check up in about a week to see how it is doing. I drove from Queens, NY all the way to here because this is the only place I would trust with an injured wildlife bird. Will update my review in a week or two with progress of the pigeon hopefully!
P.S. they accept donations on their website and I plan to donate as soon as I get home tonight and get my wallet, especially since they were so considerate in taking in the pigeon i found, so please donate as well if you can!!!
I have brought injured birds here in the past, and was very touched by the level of kindness and compassion put into caring for each creature. If you want to check in on a patient you have brought in, there is an email you can follow up with after 5 days. I have chosen this service each time, and the responses have always been detailed and considerate. The folks at WBF will do everything they can to ensure that each bird gets a fighting chance, and in the cases when euthanasia is the only ethical option, it is a choice that they clearly make with much sensitivity and deliberation.
I have even recently begun volunteering at WBF. Everyone (staff and volunteers alike) is wonderful and more than happy to share their knowledge and love for animals. I had no prior experience working with birds before volunteering, and have already learned so much hands on. I genuinely look forward to each volunteer shift, and have found it to be an intensely rewarding experience.
There is no better place in NYC to trust to look after our avian friends.
The only place I could find in NYC to help address an injured bird (pigeon, specifically). I'm extremely grateful as the majority of vet hospitals and clinics, even emergency clinics, only seem to treat cats and dogs. I visited several before finding Wild Bird Fund. Skip the search and come straight here for injured birds. There's an avian hospital across the street for domesticated birds. Sincerely, thank you for all that you do. Send a donation if you can spare a few bucks; Wild Bird Fund's efforts are unrecognized and underrated.
