The staff members are so friendly and nice.
This is a FEDERAL courthouse in 1967 named after the first black Supreme Court Justice. The president appoints Supreme Court Justices and it is a lifetime term. Did you know that you do NOT need to be a lawyer to become a judge at the state or federal level - it is NOT a requirement!
This is a really impressive building that is built in the classical revival style, and was built between 1932 and 1936 by architect Gilbert Cass and his son. It has two main components: the base and the tower. The tower is 37 stories high measuring 179.83 metres.
It serves as the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. The building contains 35 court rooms.
Events that are noteworthy include the espionage conspiracy trial of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, the guilty plea from Ivan Boesky and the trial of Martha Stewart.
The building was named after Thurgood Marshall, who worked at the courthouse from 1961 to 1965 as a Judge on the Second Circuit of Appeals before being promoted to the Supreme Court of the United States. The building was named in his honour on April 15, 2003.
If you are walking past Foley Square, you can not miss this impressive building. Definitely worth a look.
Beautiful and impressive courthouse. Home to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
