Awesome place for so many different kind of vision needs. Their vision therapy department is absolutely top notch.
I went to SUNY optometry for a full eye examination. I was seen by a third year intern by the name of Yana. She was thorough and she gave excellent verbal and physical hand cues during the eye exam which sped it along.
Yana’s physical hand cues were particularly helpful as I was in an unfamiliar space, surrounded by random equipment, and being asked to process verbal directions rather quickly—move my eyes in certain directions—thus making it easier for her to properly examine my eyes.
The whole exam, including pupil dilation, took about 3 hours—which the booking receptionist informed me of when I booked, so no surprisses there.
Overall, the exam with Yana and my interactions with the support staff at SUNY optometry were a pleasant experience.
The only exception to this visit was the minor interaction I had with the teaching physician at the end of my visit. The physician seemed to lack patience when I couldn’t quickly follow their verbal only cues (vs. Yana’s verbal + physical hand cues) as quickly as they may be used to. Despite that, I would still re-book with SUNY.
I will never go to a different eye clinic again. ❤️❤️❤️. The service is great and DR. explained everything and answered all of your questions. Clinic didn't rush to perform tests. You will be there a while but worth it.👍👍👍
I am an African American female
45-50 years old.
Over a six week period I was diagnosed and treated for an ocular emergency. Namely, CORNEA ULCER. My experience was excellent! I felt totally satisfied with the care, respect and attention given. My questions was always answered; At each visit I was greeted friendly, and informed about the intentions of my attendant. After sanitizing the equipment my eyes was throughly examined.
I had appointments every three days. Because the ULCER healing was slow, I was given an amniotic membrane treatment which miraculously sped up the healing and restored vision, comfort and ease of driving in the sunlight. Extremely grateful for the team of doctors and interns that attended to me there.
I have had my eyes examined at SUNY College of Optometry half a dozen times and generally have had no problem with my contact lenses prescription and service. But realize that you are having your eye tests done by students who are supervised by doctors.
My most recent prescription for gas permeable contacts was not satisfactory and after trying my new lenses I immediately realized that I could not read a sign just 10 feet away. I had to telephone to make another appointment and the same doctor redid the tests, correcting his previous mistakes. This cost me money for the lenses I had already ordered, but fortunately I did not have to pay extra for the second visit. However, I will have to pay more for a second pair of lenses with the corrected prescription.
Overall, this is an acceptable place to have eyes examined. The service is friendly and thorough exams are done. Despite one bad exam, I would go again as it is cheaper to go here than other places in Manhattan.
